Laura is an amazing theater professor. She gives good feedback when working on scenes, and really helps you when you need it. She gives some homework, but most of the activities you have to work with other people. If you show up to every class, you should be fine! Also, participation is mandatory because you play acting games in class.

Comment:

Boring class but very easy. Review sessions before every test so if you take notes during those and study you are guaranteed to get an A. One homework assignment that took like an hour. She makes you go to plays and take quizzes on them which isn't as bad as it sounds. I would recommend talking this class if it fills a requirement.

Comment:

Not exactly the most exciting class, but she tries to spice it up with some improv days. If you need to get your arts requirement out of the way, this class (Intro to Theatre) is the way to go. Can miss up to 5 classes and lots of bonus chances if you don't mind writing theatre critiques.

Loved the class, not at all a blow off class but if your committed it's a easy A, she could sometimes have a smart mouth and be rude (depending on who u are) but all in all I loved the class and wish there was a fundamentals 2...if you like acting and being silly take this class (not boring at all)

I'm still not sure how i feel about her. I feel like she plays favorites in her class and is very opinionated. Maybe i just like David Skeele (another theater professor) so much better, but you'll learn in her class if you take it. She has all kinds of wild ideas! you might like it better then i did try it out...it's not torture.

I really hated this class. We had to write tons and tons of papers and go see a few plays. I think Smiley played favorites, and she was MUCH nicer to the people she deemed "worthy" of her attention. She doesn't use Blackb., so good luck trying to figure out WHY you got your final grade. She was a terrible teacher.

Can be an easy A but it depends where you are coming from. If this is your world, it's simple, if you're like me and fulfilling a liberal requirement, it's still easy but requires a lot of work. You'll be performing a lot and need to memorize a lot. It's all about your mind set going into the class for people like me because it is not a blow off.

Intro to theatre with professor smiley is pretty easy. You can miss five classes but any more than that and your in trouble. Dont even try keeping up with her notes its impossible! Just make sure you dont miss the review its all you need for the tests! The final is the easiest thing ever just the first two tests which you can print to study! and go to the assigned plays for sure!

SHe goes over the notes very fast, so it is easier to just buy the book and just highlight what she goes over because most of it in the book. Also, go to class, she takes attendence. Definitely go to class the day before a test because she will go over the entire test almost exactly how you'll see it.

BOOOORING. but easy. go to class once in a while.go the review before the test--she tells you every question/answer. blowoff class all the way. try out for one of her plays. you probably wont make it, but she'll remember you. I did: you can miss 5. i missed 12. 100% attendance.

Dr. Smiley thinks she's cool and she is, I guess. Classes aren't boring and the attendance policy is great. Tests can be hard, but you just have to study. Whatever you do, don't fall asleep in class because she'll catch you.
