Comment:

Dr. Hughes makes you work HARD for an A in her class, but I honestly learned a lot from her. I wouldn't take her again for a core class because the workload was so heavy, but I definitely will go to her in the future for advice as she gave great feedback on papers and other work. If you are ready to work hard, take her class. Otherwise avoid.

Comment:

Dr. Hughes was one of my favorite professors in the TCU English Department. She is incredibly passionate about what she teaches and creates an engaging environment in class. However, expect a lot of work. There are at least 4 or 5 different major assignments/papers plus exams. But even though she was tough, I gained so much from her course!

She is a good teacher and very educated about her topics but she can be overwhelming and is obsessed with women's rights. she is a very hard essay grader but if you ask for help she will help you

If you have ever considered going into a liberal arts graduate program, take Dr. Hughes. She gives you SO MUCH work to do and expects you to be experts by the end of the semester. This is not a bad thing. She's incredibly fun to take classes from. Take this class to challenge yourself and work your butt off for the A. It will teach you so much.

She is extremely condescending towards students and is very strict on attendance policy. Her grading techniques fluctuate from paper to paper, so it is extremely difficult to please her. I would not take this again if you paid me.

I took her western lit class and loved it. She assigns a ton of reading and gives quizzes once a week. I sparknoted the readings and got 95 on almost all of them. She is a tough grader but if you see her one on one she is extremely helpful. I've never had a teacher so passionate. She is a must take teacher. Harder but in the end worth it.

Hughes is one of the best professors at TCU, and I would HIGHLY recommend her. I took "Why Read Literature" with her, which is an easy class as long as you read the stories and pay attention.

Honestly one of the best English courses at TCU. Dr. H is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the material which by the way is incredibly interesting. I cannot remember a day when the entire class wasn't laughing due to some "Wilde" joke.She can be tough and expects the most of her students but honestly no one in that class would complain

Lots of reading, but an incredible prof. She grades tough on the papers but tells you what she wants on her tests. Be prepared for reading but if you enjoy English you will love her class. She tries so hard to make every class interesting and her passion is obvious. DEFINITELY take her if you're an English major/minor!

Dr. Hughes, is an excellent professor. She will value your opinions, which encourages your participation. She makes the class interesting with her knowledge of her subject and she inserts little known tid bits. If you need an English class, TAKE HERS!!! Even if you're not really interested in the subject, you might be pleasantly surprised.

One's "TCU experience" would not be complete without taking a course from Dr. Hughes; she is without question one of the top professors at the university. She is exceptionally intelligent, passionate, and motivated: the best teacher with whom I've ever had the privilege of working.

Amazing teacher. Lots of reading, but she makes it well worth it. Grades VERY strict on style and polish on essays. Hughes is very enthusiatic and makes everyone feel like they have something unique and smart to add to the class. One of my best professors at TCU.

This class is interesting but there's a LOT of reading and the quizes, which are unannounced, are usually over the most obscure readings. Honestly, sometimes the discussion gets a little ridiculous. Be sure to have a LOT of free printer pages for this class, you'll need to print 20-50 pages for EACH lecture.

She is a very hard teacher. Her paper requirements are broad, but yet you can tell she is looking for something specific. She is a very tough grader and the class is boring. You have to read like 5 books plus a lot of papers. I took my papers to the writing center 2 for every paper and I got a LOW C on them. THe class is BORING too don't take it!!

Undoubtedly the best professor I have had at TCU. She does assign a ton of reading, but everything is worth it in the end. Her energy and general knowledge is amazing. Love her !
