She's a bit intimidating at first, but you get used to her. I've seen her give some students the death glare, but sometimes they deserved it. She has strong opinions, and is more interested in you copying down her notes than offering your own opinion. If you just do what she says, it's not too hard to get a good grade.

Love her! She is really nice and really easy to talk to. I definitely agree that she is not an easy teacher, but if you enjoy discussing literature and actually being able to pay attention in class, then she is definitely the prof to go to.

I agree that you must earn your A's. It's more like learning a dog trick, though, than understanding how to actually write better. I felt my "A" essays in her class were pretty topical and consequently boring. She did introduce me to some AMAZING literature, though! She chose a great variety of texts that aptly represented a chaotic period in lit.

definite feminist leanings that often seemed to get in the way of the class. she spent a lot of time creating feminist connections. credit where it's due: she never graded me 'cause she didn't disagree with my ideas (which i know she didn't).

Took both 19th and 20th century lit from Dr. Long. 19th was difficult because we started off on the wrong foot (misunderstanding with registering for the class). Graded my papers extra hard that class. Got along better in 20th century. You have to earn your A's- they are very difficult to come by. She pushes her students towards excellence.
