Tophat is optional, so I did skip lecture many times. Professor Nyugen offers many extra points in the class (discussions, tophat), also, there are quizzes given in recitation. If you put in the effort and do practice problems, you'll do good in the class.

Cares about students. The lecture is 80% problem solving, but they appear at tests. Tests were hard for me, but if you study normally you will be in good shape. Do extra assignments, they do not add much %, but at the end you will understand that they are really helpful.

Nguyen is amazing!! The optional points are worth the time to help boost your grade. For exams, reviewing notes and taking as many practice tests as you can is important! She is very responsive to emails and gives good feedback on your assignments. Her lecture and lab Canvas sites are very organized.

Nguyen is a GREAT professor, don't let the other comments scare you. The practice tests mimic the test and if you study and do the work you'll earn the grade you deserve. She's very flexible and I highly recommend.

Ms. Nguyen was a good professor and I did better in 106 than in 105. The practice tests are very important to do well on the exams. Lecture can be very boring, but it makes more sense when she does practice problems than reading the book. The optional points she has will boost your grade at the end and she will curve the ACS final.

She does not explain anything and the exams are absolutely nothing like the lectures, practice exams OR practice problems. Worst chem teacher.

Goes through the practice problems in class extremely fast. She will put things on the exams that she barely touched on or went over in class. She doesn't curve because she gives optional points but for those points its quite a lot of work and only worth two points... also don't even bother to go to her office hours, she will make you feel stupid

The set up of Nguyen's class seems like it is optimistic in the beginning of the semester, since she does grant optional points and extra credit . This is the most difficult general chemistry class I have taken - I have taken AP Chem in high school that went over exactly the same material, way easier. Good luck finishing any exam in her class.

If you have Nguyen, you will not win. She goes through practice problems very fast, and expects us to know how to do it, without her explaining it. She's a kind person, but terrible lecturer. When taking Nguyen, beware. NO CURVES -69/10 Would not take again.

Many tests, often with a small breaks in between. Classes were hard to follow, with the lectures consisting of mostly her quickly working through practice problems with clicker questions in between. I found it very hard to keep pace with the material, and the back to back tests made it very hard to focus on my other classes.

While there are lots of chances for optional additional points, that does not take away from the fact that lectures are horrible and are basically just watching her work practice problems with a few clicker questions built in. Exams are ridiculously difficult and long given the amount of time allotted. Exams are also barely curved.

She is an amazing lecturer and really makes sure you understand the information being presented. Also, she clearly cares about her students. Just make you realize when she grades the "optional" points, do all of them you can. You will want them at the end of the semester. One assignment could mean the difference between a letter grade.

Yes there are optional points, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this is a horrible professor. Her test aren't designed for the time alotted for the lecture, & I studied 50-60 hours for each test, & barely got by with B's. If you take lab in the fall, prepare to have your entire Thxgiving "break" obliterated by the 75pt lab due. Horrible

There are "optional points" which is not considered extra credit just you're given assignments or activities to do which at most can get you a 200/200. Prof was extremely boring, chem is usually a fun subject for me. I started dreading her lectures so much I stopped going other than days we had the top hat quizzes.

I took C106 with Ms. Nguyen on summer, and I absolutely loved this professor! The class was really hard, during the 6 weeks semester I was studying for at least 30 hours a week. Me and my classmates were stunned by the amount of effort Ms. Nguyen puts in to make her students succeed. Do all the optional tasks, and visit her during office hours!

Ms. Nguyen is an OK professor. Not the best lecturer but gives you an idea of what it takes do well in the class. Many opportunities to get some optional points in and outside of lecture.

!!Her over any other C106 professor!! She's always willing to help AND she gives a lot of resources to help prepare you for exams - do the practice exams and bluebook practice problems (pretty similar to actual exams). Don't neglect the extra points, I did most of them and it boosted my final grade up 3%! Also, go to class :)

Honestly Ms. Nguyen is a nice person but she explains things more conceptually instead of mathematically which didn't help in my case. The tests are difficult as well as the content, but there is plenty of optional points (not exactly extra credit, but it helps a little). The ACS final is cumulative over 105 & 106 and is much easier than her tests.
