Comment:

Definitely the most positive teacher I have had here. Always smiles, has engaging stories and relevant experiences, makes music interesting. Good about keeping on track. Easy class if you have any music background. Homework assignments make you think, but he will help if you need it. Class involvement is very important.

Comment:

He is very passionate about Jazz and teaching. Personally Jazz is not my cup of tea; this made the class very plain and dry for me. All the info you need for the test is on the powerpoint study them trust me. The class is not hard you just have to be slightly interested. He was a good professor-very enthusiastic and helpful.

Comment:

His class is actually really interesting and you get to appreciate music from a different point of view. There are a lot of assignments, but nothing challenging. His tests can be tricky, but as long as you memorize the songs and his ppts you'll be just fine. Would recommend for art core! Downfall: attendance mandatory

Take him for your Fine Art core! Really easy class. Very talented man who knows a lot about music. He offers an extra credit assignment for 10 points on your average if you ask him. His tests, however, are really detailed, and you must STUDY the heck out of the PowerPoints! Also, be prepared to be bored out of your mind with mandatory attendance.

This class is incredibly boring. You have to remember so many details for exams; it's ridiculous. Mandatory attendance or he'll dock points off your grade. Random papers and concert attendances. Not an easy A. On the other hand, he is a nice guy who truly cares about what he teaches. If music is your thing, I recommend him. If not, then stay away.

Honestly, you don't have to really take notes in this class. All powerpoints are on blackboard and lectures are video recorded in case you missed something. Listen to all songs presented in class and put them on your iPhone. Tests are a little tough, but all questions come from presentations and quizzes. 2 concert reports. Easy class to take.

Takes more than writing down the presentations because those are online anyway. You have to hear his smalltalk of the personalities and everyday events of all the jazz players he's fanatic about and review these, the slides, and the songs several days in advance to make an A, lest you miss 5 Qs. Comes off as nice but is condescending in a sly way.

I had him for Music Theory for Non Music Major in Spring 2005. He is kind and very committed in terms of help students succeed in class. All teachers regard punctuality and full attendance as respect, but it is inappropriate for the teacher to display aggressive attitude towards his classes whenever there are people tardy or leaving early.

Just want to start off with saying that this is NOT a blow off class. But it isn't difficult either. Takes off points after 2 absences. You have to listen to the jazz station for an hour 1 a week and turn in a log of songs played. Tests have listening examples. REALLY study. Final is cumulative. Pretty nice guy, has an EC assignment at the end.

He's a great guy and professor, but you get screwed really fast if you miss a class, he doesn't remind you of EXTREMELY IMPORTANT due dates, and there is A LOT of outside classwork. Great if you have lots of free time, but if you're like me, you have work too, which makes the homework and concert reports difficult.

Great teacher! He is very passionate about jazz and also plays sax. I had no interest in jazz prior to this class, but he makes it fun. No book, just read his notes. Attendance is mandatory and does have a few random, but very simple, papers due throughout the semester. You will not be disapointed if you take this class!

Very nice teacher, loves what he teacher. 2 concert reports due in the whole year, and a couple of random other papers. Only hard part on tests in the listening sections where you have to know most of the names of who plays what. Must attend classes. No text book

Great teacher. He truly loves jazz. He plays the sax in class and its pretty awesome. Attendance is mandatory, but you can miss 2 days without is effecting your grade. All quizzes, powerpoints, and homework on WebCT. Just read the powerpoints and you will pass his test. I highly recommend him!
