FANTASTIC! Yes, she gives a lot of work (you have to write a 2-3 page paper every week) but you LEARN SO MUCH! She has been teaching for 30 years and is no-nonsense. If you ACTUALLY crave learning interesting and thought-provoking material, take her class. If you think it will be an easy credit cause you took a lit class before, don't take her.

Comment:

Professor Druyan is one of the best professors I've had at Hofstra. I definitely learned a lot. To me it was a really fun class. She does assign a lot of homework but it's really easy if you paid attention in class. If you aren't familiar with the language it will probably be really difficult. All in all, I loved this class!

She is an amazing professor. She cares so much about her students and will do all that she can to make sure you do well. She does give a lot of homework, but it definitely helps you learn the material. Also, she lets you retake tests!

Comment:

Druyan is a sweet, but tough lately. I tell people that she basically scared me into learning Hebrew. She gives a lot of homework and will utilize all of class time. She has great TAs who are so helpful. Overall, she is a great teacher who wants her students to succeed in Hebrew. I definitely learned quite a bit, and I'm not great with languages.

If there is another option to take this class with another professor, choose the other professor. Druyan gives a lot of homework and never lets you out early. However, if you do bad on the exams, you can do them over which is nice. Shes never absent and does not let you out early.

Great professor! She's absolutely charming. Extremely helpful -- lets you retake exams until you get an A. Learning Hebrew was easy and fun with her -- especially since I never went to Hebrew school.

Just do the work and you're guaranteed AT LEAST a B+. Plus, she has assistance that'll will pretty much "help" you out with your midterm. She gives more papers but doesn't require all of them. She offers opportunities to make up a poor grade. Plus a lot of movies with hand outs to read, (really short BTW). Over all an easy class.

I took her for Israeli Lit. It's such an easy course if you do the work. She wants your essays to be short and to the point, don't bother writing long winded essays. We didn't need a textbook-she handed out all the material you need. She goes over all the poetry and short stories and explains everything fully. So just make sure to take notes.

This teacher has a big ego. She is not very clear when it comes to grading papers. If you have a different literary interpretation other than hers, she will probably give you a low grade. She often tries to embarrass students who disagree with her also. This Prof. also thinks everyone taking the class is Jewish.

My FAVORITE professor at Hofstra!! took her for both israeli lit and holocaust lit and I wish she taught more classes. she isnt as hard as she makes herself out to be. mostly just some reading and about 5 two page papers throughout the semester. her classes are interesting and she makes class enjoyable

I actually found her to be humorous, the way she makes little jokes about herself and her "old fashioned" way of living. I wouldn't say this is a hard course, but Dr. Druyan's grading is a little difficult. She does not always give a clear rubric on the way she grades. I learned a whole lot from this course though and recommend it.

She is very intelligent in her subject area but she was honestly not one of my favorite professors. She can be a bit rude and she definitely has her favorites. She is a very tough grader and while I did learn a lot, I would not recommend her.

Professor Druyan is the sweetest lady. She's such a nice person and is very knowledgeable. Her tests aren't difficult at all, as long as you read all the poems and understand them. She's very helpful and I recommend her to all.

Ok I've had her now for both hebrew and Israeli lit. Yeah, it's true she's NOT going to hold your hand like a baby and walk you through this. But she's kind and understanding. She's VERYYY old fashioned. You need to go to class regularly. I love her! If you're Jewish, it's a definite plus! She'll like you more.

SHES AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she makes everything so clear for you, loves when you ask questions, she lets you retake the midterm if you did badly. The subject matter and class isn't the easiest class you take but she is amazing. I recommend for people that want a solid class to learn in, not an easy class to sail through.

i'm gonna be brutally honest, and nobody take offense, but if you're not a Jew, make sure you keep quiet and nod your head at everything if you wanna take this class. any contradiction to judaism is taken offensively! learned a lot, she's a smart lady. from israel and served in the army. but she's too biased to be teaching!

DO not take this class because it will just make you angry every second youre in it...I only missed one class this entire semester and one day in class she called me out because of it and said maybe if you were here the poems woudlnt look like they were in chinese!
