Comment:
Great professor, class wasn't easy and I think he gets distracted when he's writing his own code (somewhat excusable). But, if you're putting in effort to pass - he will reciprocate at the same level. Really understanding and definitely caring. If all professors were like him, there would be no need for this website.

I had him for 240 the first time he teached it, and it was quite easy. Little HW, the tests were copied from the test review, and a big part of the class is a group project of your choice. I hear since then he assigns more HW and uses some online tools. Overall, he is a very friendly and fair teacher.

Not his fault, but departmental issues caused this course to be very confusing and scattered. He seemed like a good guy and good teacher when we had class, but we missed close to 15 days of class.

Kinnicutt's introductory programming class is what you make of it. The text is an online access code for Revel and all readings and homework is on there. Exercises are pretty difficult (but you can find them online). Exams are fair and he curved my 87 to a 100. Grading system can be confusing, overall he is a very kind man who cares about you!

I had him for CPS106, and was not a fan. He was not very accessible. I went during the class period for help three times and he never showed up. I emailed him and he did not respond, I went to his office hours and his secretary told me he was teaching right now but he wasn't because it was MY CLASS TIME! Thank god for YouTube help in this class.

He's a wonderful professor who I had for two semesters straight (CPS181 and CPS280). He teaches the programming at a slow pace, which is nice. Very explanatory. Class is not mandatory and if you miss a class, you can find everything out online. Study guides are almost EXACTLY what is on the exams. Great class! Highly recommended!

good professor, goes at a slow pace, all his programs are very straight forward, and get right to the point. He gives you practice exams prior to the actual exam which are pretty much word for word what to expect on the actual exam. Overall good professor, except he takes FOREVER to post grades on blackboard.

Kinnicutt is an amazing teacher! He grades fairly easy and goes over all of the labs the following class. Very nice and funny. His exams are very easy if you review the study guides he gives you! One of my favorite CPS teachers. Definitely would have him as a teacher again. He is very understanding, nice, and respectful to all students.

This was a really easy course and I would recommend anyone to take this course. Half way into the semester he made all our quizzes and labs extra credit which boasts your grade. We take weekly quizzes, but they are easy if you listen in class. Also the questions on the quizzes, are questions on the test. Good, easy class!

I would certainly not recommend this as a UP if you are not good at science or math, like myself. Kinnicutt is very intelligent and seems to forget that he is teaching a 100 level class with many students that have no interest in geology. This class requires a lot of math which I was not expecting. Rethink this being an easy UP.

He is the man, the programs in his class always made sense. If you didnt understand a program, just go in and he's happy to help. Learned a lot even though my cps 180 professor didn't teach me anything.

Wonderful Teacher, very clear and makes the class fun and interesting. Classes typically consist of powerpoint notes and videos. Highly recommended for a U.P course.

Pat is the greatest teacher I've had at CMU. He makes class fun and interesting. Lots of videos of current events. Homework is ok, quizzes he reviews right before them so you know what's on it, tests are from the quizzes. Can be boring, reads from a powerpoint most of the time. He's MIT cubed, (BS, MS, and Doctorate all from MIT!) very smart!

So easy. 180 & 181. He is a great guy. Real nerd at heart but extremely easy to get along with. He covers topics through examples and labs not lectures. I even ended up working for him last semester. Grades super easy. Basically if you tried and it was 1/2 way right you got 100%. Really recommend his class.

Very easy class. His lectures were often boring but the homework assignments were better than those given in the same class by other profs.

This was his 1st time teaching the course. Didn't really know what to expect of the students. Figured we knew more than we did I believe. He's been very understanding tho. Tries to make the class as pain-free as possible, but when you're going into IT, any programming is painful.

You dont need either book for this class. If you go to the in class quizes, which he tells you when they will be...and go to lab you will be set w/ an A. He gives a study guide for each test w/ all the definitions you will need for the test.
