Professor Atwood, has no make up policy and his grading criteria is very confusing. One wont be able to simply understand what he is looking for! highly recommend not to take this Professor, even if its your only option.

Professor Atwood is the worst professor. He has no structure to his classes and he expects you to understand history at his level despite you not being a history major. He always calls people out for not understanding the material. 10/10 wont recommend this class!!!

Does not help you with papers, always indirectly calling out on students for not being able to talk in class. Moreover, does not provide proper feedback for papers, and has no make up policy or create credit to give you a chance to at least rebuild your grade.

He is a conspiracy theorist. Do not take his class if you are uninterested in hearing about JFK, Area 51, and 9/11 as an inside job.

No structure to the class at all! Just ramblings about the government keeping secrets and how the world is going to end.

The class, itself, was ok... but not what I expected. I took "War in American Culture"... but it was more like "Conspiracy in American Government." He's definitely bias against American foreign policy. Interesting stuff, though... just nothing that helped me in my degree or anything I couldn't get from wikilinks (which he mentions EVERY class!)

Dr. Atwood is great! He really knows his stuff, is very passionate about the material and has been teaching American History at UMB for over 20 years. He can come off as a stickler for attendance, but it's simply a matter of respect. It's well worth taking any class with him.

Nice guy, not a lot of work, just a few books that you can read if you want or not. Three papers, make sure you use proper citation! Discussions don't follow the syllabus and are pretty one- sided. He's really liberal, maybe a bit of a conspiracy theorist but, at least he's passionate about the subject matter. I probably wouldn't take him again.

I knew nothing about the Middle East before walking into this class and Atwood really opened my mind. The subject matter was scary at times but he really knows what he's talking about. A lot of people might not like what he says but he backs himself up with some pretty damning evidence. Highly recommended.

Have taken 4 semester's with Prof.Atwood. He knows his stuff. To people who know nothing about foreign policy he can sound like an activist- but the reality is he is simply informing students of the realities the United States faces both historically and on a daily basis. Truly a great guy, awesome classes, and at times very funny in his mannerisms

not everyone is going to agree/like this professor. He opened my mind to all sorts of new ideas, but others were turned off by him. Never any homework, only 2 papers, and a movie every class. Participate and the class will go by fast and be more interesting.

Took US & Middle East class, found it very informative. There was some skepticism on my part which will require me to do outside research. Recommend this class if you want to know more about the middle east. We had 3 paper assignments, he only required attendance. Watched a movie every week, I was always alert in class even though it was 3 hrs long

A very biased prof, bases class only on materials that enforce his views, assigns no dissenting texts, has no respect for diversity of ideas...you know the saying "Propaganda isn't so much what you say, but what you don't?" Well there is ALOT this guy leaves out- this isn't a history class, this is activism masquerading as history!
