Professor Imbertson is the best professor I've had at UMN. He's kind, has great and interactive lectures, and really shows a passion for engineering. He's a fairly easy grader, so you have to do some extra work on your own to make sure you really understand the material.

All I have to say about Paul is he is one of my favorite professors. He's knowledgeable of the actual EE field and makes sure to teach us the stuff we need. Additionally, he's fantastic at actually teaching the material using enough examples where it's easy to understand the thought process needed to solve problems.

Paul Imbertson is one of God's gifts to the world. He has spent time in industry so he knows exactly what is and isn't relevant to know, and he presents what is relevant with clarity and passion. Paul is knowledgeable about almost everything outside of electrical engineering so take some time to get to know him if you're in his class.

Comment:
Paul gives great lectures that are extremely clear, explains all the concepts well. Lectures can get redundant as a lot of time is spent on review, but it pays off on the tests. Midterms were all very reasonable, and the worst one was dropped.

I haven't had a professor that cares about his students as much as Prof. Imbertson. He's extremely nice and presents the material clearly and logically. He leads the discussions himself so make sure to go to those, he covers a lot of test-like questions. He pretty much says what on each test. Overall just a wholesomely solid prof. Highly recommend.

He's a really nice and approachable guy, and he's very intelligent. He knows what he's talking about, but doesn't teach from the book. His doesn't teach to his tests or his homework at all, so be ready to learn things from the textbook. However, the topics he does teach in class really help your skills with circuits.

Comment:
This was a renewable energy course. Professor Imbertson cares about students, but expects fairly little in terms of work. If you can present at the end of the semester, you'll probably pass with an A. Let me rephrase, I don't know anyone who took the class who didn't pass with an A. It's easy, and he's an incredibly lax grader.

EE 3015: You need to read the book and self study as nothing he talks about in class appears on the tests or HW. Exams are hard. EE 4701: HW has nothing to do with what's taught in class. Practice exams are similar to actual exams. Exams aren't too challenging. Very caring towards students. Just buckle down and get through it.

Absolute garbage of a professor. He believes we can "teach ourselves this stuff," which is fine, but then why am I in college paying tuition if he won't do his job? Assigns meaningless assignments around out-dated concepts. He also ignores conventional math and makes stuff up on the fly, leaving most students lost. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

He is an excellent professor that takes a bit of getting used to. When I first started, I considered dropping the class cause I thought he was a bit narrow minded. I'm glad I didn't go with my first impression. Coming from industry he understands what it means to be an EE. I would reccomend him and EE1001 to anyone thinking about becoming an EE.

Hands down the best EE prof at UMN. Not for the conventional reason though, because, no, he isn't good at teaching out of a text book, and you won't think you're learning the way you should. What Paul does that beats the field is prepare you for the REAL industry, things you do/learn in his class will actually help you in your career, take this prof

He doesn't always explain what's needed to understand--let alone complete--the homework, which means that you'll have to dig into your textbook (or an answer key) to really know what's going on. He's a really nice and approachable guy and his test/grading format made it really easy to get a good grade. Pretty easy class.

He is not out to destroy everyone's GPAs. His curve was super generous, although his lectures were dry and not helpful at all. He assigns homework straight out of the book and does not provide comprehensive answers afterwards. He really listens to class input and is a genuinely good guy.

"Active learning" teaching style was absolute garbage. Assigned homework on material that was not covered, may work for some people not me. I still have no clue what I was supposed to learn. His lectures were him drawing the same picture over and over and just rambling. The last half of some lectures was him just flipping through the textbook.

Paul is a really nice guy and he really cares about his students, he let the class decide whether or not to add another midterm and made it so it wouldn't hurt our grade. The lectures are somewhat interesting and relatively easy to follow, tests are fair, homework can be challenging but going to his and the TA office hours is really helpful.

Allowed us to drop the final! His lectures seem too specific and repetitive, but he teaches the material brilliantly. He truly cares about his students and values our opinions. Answers all questions and even uploaded homework questions so we didn't have to buy the textbook. Midterms were easy and homework was alright. Absolutely no stress load.

Lectures are very abstract and rarely relate to homework, but if you read the book and do homework/enrichment problems and show up to recitation you will do well. Very clear and fair tests.
