What a dynamic lecturer! Fehrenbacher is very passionate about what he teaches, and his excitement is infectious. Requires a fair amount of reading, but gives students time throughout the semester to recuperate. Tests usually consist of quote identification, multiple choice, and an essay. If you read the material, the tests are fairly easy to pass.

Rick is just awesome! He's so energetic and excited to be a lit nerd. He made Shakespeare come to life in an accessible way. Everyone should take a class from Rick!

Rick is a badass in all ways. I love that he lectures like a firehose. I don't think I ever took notes and I learned more from his class than from any other lit classes. He has as much fun with the literature as we do. I took Middle English lit as an excuse to read it and it seems like he teaches it as an excuse to talk about it. He loves his subject matter and his students.

I took him for a requirement for my marketing degree and loved the class so much I changed my major to English. I've had him for four classes and he is by far the most intelligent professor at UI.

This class was awesome! Even if you didn't read the material before class, Rick explained it so well that you didn't even feel as though you'd missed anything. Plus, his tests were very easy...with a matching section, even.

By far, the best teacher I've had at UI. I've considered taking classes from him that wouldn't help my degree.

He had to cancel class several times, but he was a great professor and very intelligent. He has a blunt sense of humor, but anyone that can make Beowulf interesting has to be good! If you visit his office, be prepared to have something smart to say.
