Professor Colvin is a nice man with good intentions. The class is set up so students can get an easy A. As long as you study the content before the exams and go to class to receive clicker points you will get an A.

Comment:

Only has three exams and thats it, no other grades except clicker questions. Exams are impossible but every clicker question you get right is worth extra credit. Huge curve to the class if you go to class and read over powerpoint once before exam just so you won't bomb it then you will pass with an A or B easily. He is extremely boring! take it tho

Comment:

Bios 1700 is an extremely difficult class no matter who you take. Colvin offers sooo much extra credit it near impossible to fail his class. He also posts video lecturestutorials on everything he talks about in class. Attendance is not mandatory but a lot of extra credit is given in class also. If you have to take this class take it with him!

Very good teacher. Class is very difficult and requires lots of studying put offers tons of extra credit!You do not have to attend class but a lot of the extra credit is given in class so very important to attend! Also no need to buy the text book all the information is on the slides and tutorials that he gives for extra credit.

I would recommend this class! I am not a big fan of biology and I was able to get an A in the class. He is very straight forward in what you need to know. Attendance is not mandatory but I would highly suggest going to class because he does multiple extra credit clicker questions every day.

Comment:

This class is really difficult, but easy to pass. He is extremely boring to listen to, there are about 300-500 powerpoint slides to study per test, and he goes way more in-depth on tests than in class. However, there is a huge curve built into his grading system, and also a ton of extra credit from clicker points. If you need Bio, I recommend him.

Take this class with colvin, he is boring but better then the other professor for this class. Let's you use a 1 sided "cheat sheet" on every exam. Also gives you clicked questions every class that is used towards extra credit. Attendance isn't mandatory but the clicker questions if you go will bring up your grade. Makes you only know basics.

This CLASS is tough, but Colvin makes it easy to pass. Do the tutorials, keep up with the material, AND STUDY CONSISTENTLY! The information in the tutorials is exactly what is covered on the exams. Just put the time in to study the material, and you'll do fine, Colvin is a very lenient professor.

All he does is read from the powerpoints every class period. His exams are really detailed and really in depth. If you want an "A" in this class then you best be studying every single night for hours each night. He really isn't a good teacher of Human Biology at all.

okay reading through all the harsh comments on colvin is dumb.... just like i saw someone else say, if you cant pass 1700 with colvin then just change your major now. he is definitely a good and easy professor. do the online tutorials over and over and believe me the exams are exactly what the tutorials are about. its a straight forward class.

Dr. Colvin is the nicest man you will ever meet. Bios 1700 can be really challenging. He actually gives people a chance of passing. I am so grateful for him teaching a Bios 1700 class after I failed with Sue. Take it with Colvin.

He is awful. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Should be a simple class. We got 2 grades, midterm & final. the final was over 11 chapters. Can't even keep his info straight. I went to class every day, paid attention, took notes, studied, and I still didn't get a good grade. Horrible professor.

I thought this class was really easy. The test material is all off of the power points and were pretty easy in my opinion. He offers 80 extra credit points and used a 50 curve for the final grade. I would definitely recommend Colvin!!

Definitely the easiest class I have taken thus far. He's not the most interesting professor but you can tell he's trying. He offers ALOT of extra credit, which is a plus. The material is challenging but his exams are straight off the powerpoint slides that he posts online. I rarely went to class and easily got an A. Definitely take it with him.

His class is extremely hard. The average of our midterm was a 68%. If you take this class with Colvin, go to SI. It's pretty much the only way you're going to get a decent grade. If you can, take it with another professor.

He's a nice guy-he tries. Here's some advice though, if you can't pass BIOS 170 with Colvin, CHANGE YOUR MAJOR NOW! He's as easy as it gets. Definitely possible to get an A, but you HAVE to study every night to do well in biology.

He is a cool guy, he makes a somewhat funny joke every now and then. However, he as a tendency to speak in a soft volume making it hard to pay attention. He only gives tests and exams so mess up on one ruins you grade.

Dr. Colvin is a nice guy, but he has NO inflection in his voice. Staying awake in his class is a daily battle. He taught directly from the notes which he puts online. Attendance isn't mandatory. Plus the only grades are the tests so if you fail one, it ruins your grade.
