DO NOT TAKE!!! If this lady doesn't like you for any reason (and she most likely won't) she will definitely make you feel it. Was extremely nasty and disrespectful to me on several occasions. Huge reason why Nursing at OCC was pure hell.

I could not agree more with the last person. I had the same experience. Definitely not a nurturing environment. I do not believe that this instructor has had any instruction herself on actually how to teach in a classroom and it shows. And to be completely fair I believe that she is not the only one at this school with poor teaching skills.

Comment:

Looking back on her class I would have to say it was by far the least enjoyable class I had taken. I felt she was less than honest and would say what ever she needed to say if a situation came up. That puts little trust in a teacher. I heard she was demoted in 09 as director and it had something to do with the NLN review. They did not pass in 09.

One of the best professors I have ever had. She wants nothing but the best for her students and will help you in any way possible if you go to her with concerns. She is very experienced and knowledgeable and has a great personality! Wish I could have her every semester!

I thought Prof Kearns was the best professor I ever had. She is tough, but I feel well prepared going forward in Nursing. I had the sense too that our class did better than the other sections. Having her for 3 hour lectures, 2x a week was easy. She was already very interesting and obviously passionate about nursing.

Prof. Kearns might be best prof. I've ever had. Those complaining prob didn't do well. She is tough, yes, but when you're dealing with handling other peoples lives, you should know your stuff - just like she does. Was always forthcoming with test material and willing to give extra help.

I really enjoyed Professor Kearns. She is a very professional teacher. She will respect you if you have respect for her and yourself. She is extremely knowledgable and has a great sense of humor. She expects a lot from you, but if you want to be a great nurse, you should expect it from yourself.

I would not recommend prof Kearns. Although she is quite knowledgeable, she does not add any insight to lectures or material. I learned more on my own. Personally feel that she is taking away from learning experience, not enhancing it. Not clear on expectations. I also agree with a previous post that the moral compass is all over the place.

DO NOT TAKE THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS. DON'T LET THE COLLEGE CONVINCE YOU OF WASTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ! I just had her(spring 11)she is very intelligent, knows her stuff,but is NOT a good teacher.it was hard, since she did not make up the test so didnt know what 2 expect,& was not able 2 help while taking an exam.i had her for clinical too,i felt alot of pressure in the beginning when she would question u alot, i was stil new..it all ended well tho..

Prof Kearns knows this stuff. She wants you to learn. She doesn't beat around the bush and tells you what you need to know for the tests. More than willing to help. I think she is one of the best teachers at OCC.

She is a fair teacher if you are truly interested in understanding the material. If you don't get something, meet with her one to one and she will give you all the time in the world to go over it until you do. If she see's you are trying, she will work with you. I thought she was a pretty good professor.

This one should have been retired not just demoted. She has no problem with saying one thing to your face and then doing just the opposite later on. She seems to have a broken moral compass. Her B... S... is how she got herself into trouble in the first place. And I'm not talking about her degree LOL !

True professor kerns is a very difficult professor. She expects you to read your book. Although she reads powerpoints verbatim, dont let that fool you she still takes items from the text. Fair teacher. Easy to understand once you get use to her speech.
