Dr. Maddux is interesting to say the least. I ended up taking him for FR 1 & 2, as well as a tag teach class of FR 3 & 4 with Lewallen. He enjoyed picking on students to make a point. He also hums a lot and is just odd all together. He is an easy grader though and you can easily make an A.

Comment:

Dr. Maddux is a good teacher but very awkward at the same time. If you want an easy class but barely learn anything this is probably your go to guy. I personally did not like his classes and he did humiliate many people in front of the class (not so pleasant)

Comment:

Dr. Maddux is one of the quirkiest UD professors (that's saying something here!), and easily one of the most helpful. Going to his office outside of class is super helpful. He doesn't expect more than he should from his students, just enough, I would say. As far as brilliance goes, I think the fact he was a Fulbright Scholar speaks for itself!

I agree, stay AWAY from the man...he's positively outrageous...totally passive-aggressive and takes his frustration out on students by humiliating them in front of their peers...totally unhelpful, especially in grammar classes. I have never had any use for anything he's ever said in class. Seriously. Don't even bother.

You have got to be kidding me. The man ostracizes students, he patronizes and REALLY talks down to the class, refusing to recognize that we do in fact have other classes. Avoid this guy. Not helpful at ALL outside of class. Insulting, just a real pain to be around.

Dr Maddux is UD's best kept secret. He is passionate about what he does, and so well informed about it that he seems to reach beyond the borders of coherency when he teaches. However, the more you pay attention, the more you realize he's not truly insane, simply incredibly well informed concerning his subject matter.

Maddux is just so happy that it's hard not to enjoy him. very clear explanation of the language, but his personality is what makes him a great teacher. He really seems to derive so much joy from his profession, it's refreshing.
