I will say this guy knows calculus but I would not recommend his class. He grades tests extremely tough and you have to do the work his way (even if there are other, easier ways to do a problem) or he will could off points. I made a 68 on a test and got the correct answer on every problem but didnt work it his way and had 32 points counted off.

The definition of beating a dead horse. If you are someone who learns from repetition, he would be perfect for you. But for me, the fact that hed say the same thing sooooo many times was infuriating. My calculator kept turning off because he took so long to go from one step to the next.

Guy has been teaching for 30 years. Amazing lectures, slow but if you pay attention you will have a deep understanding of Calculus. Tough grader, but it will help you in later math classes. He truly cares about his students. He gets super excited about Math! If you attempt, not get right, 80% of the homework, extra credit to your final grade. 10/10

For those that have difficulty in math, take him. I've gone to him for help beyond the class I took and understood it better than what my current teachers were teaching. Very helpful and caring. Try to take every math class I have with him. Unfortunately, he can't teach them all. DEFINATELY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!

made calculus 3 and differential equations seem easy. seriously, take this guy. i rarely did homework, but really paid attention in class and understood every single thing he threw up on the board and why he did. ran over time quite a bit, but that's not really an issue for me with the material we were covering

If you're weak in math, this is the teacher to take. He explains everything clearly and thoroughly and does everything he can to help. We had homework in My Math Lab which was required and homework from the book that was optional. I recommend doing the book work. Some tests were take-home. If you're willing to put in the effort, you'll do fine.

I took Professor Smotherman 3 times and each time he was an excellent teacher. Taking his class, you need to get use to class being held over and repetition. But because of his thorough lectures and enthusiasm for mathematics, you will understand the material. I would definitely recommend you take him.

Mr Smotherman is a brilliant math teacher. Knows calculus like the back of his hand and will teach it chrystal clearly. Very, Very repetitive, but I really liked how he would present the material in different ways. I actually really enjoyed his math class. He seems a bit odd, but don't be afraid to ask for help. Expect him to take a while though

I had Smotherman for Calc 1,2,3 and Diff E. He's brilliant, but doesn't get the "beating a dead horse" metaphor. If you pay attention in class and do all the homework then you will learn calculus very well. His tests are hard, but not impossible if you've studied. Hilariously, he often spends five minutes telling you he will run ten minutes over.

I recently took Mr. Smotherman's online Math 1003 class and had absolutely no issues with trying to figure out the assignments. He was great about sending out reminders and making sure everyone was staying up to date on what they needed to do. I would highly recommend this teacher for anyone needing a good math teacher.

He's excellent. I would recommend Motlow if only so you could take this teacher. He tends to beat concepts into your brain with repetition, but everyone who tries at all gets it. His tests are not easy, but if you study you'll do well. If you don't understand something go talk to him. He will work with you until you do.

Excellent teacher! If you can not learn calculus from this guy then you can not learn it at all. Yes he runs things into the ground, yes he frequently runs over into break time, and yes the tests are difficult and he grades them strictly, but If you just listen to guy and do the assignments you will pass the class, and know the material

VERY helpful teacher. If you're having a hard time in his class, you're having a problem learning. He does tend to move slow but it pays off on his tests. He helps in every way possible without handing you the answers. I definitely recommend him

Smotherman is a great teacher. He moves a little slow and will go over a topic for days and days. But its good bc you definately know it like the back of your hand when he moves on. He's not easy, but he teaches thoroughly and clearly. If you pay attention and come to class (everyday), it is passable.
