I am so glad I decided to take a course with this teacher!! The enthusiasm is wonderfully contagious; you can see it the tone of the class/labs is very positive; students are talking w/ each other, laughing, working together. It is the way I have always thought college could be. Good communication & and last but not least- humor! Lots of it!

Tom is a really funny and caring professor; His classes are very lecture-based, but you will learn quite a bit while having fun as well. If you need a lab science and don't want to take Chem or Bio, take one of his courses.

Tom is perhaps one of the funniest and nicest professors I have ever had. I would highly recommend taking one of his classes if you can. Only complaint is that he lectures and uses no visual aides whatsoever, making note taking very difficult.

Tom is an awesome teacher he is always funny and interacting with the students. he is a must have teacher. he is very insparational, tells great stories, and loves to make people laugh. He is the best teacher i have ever had in my entire school history. I recomendd tom tyning to every science major student alive. Tom is the man ! all hail tom

This guy is the real deal. I learned so much about conservation of natural resources and he made it very easy. Exams are easy A's, as long as you listen during lecturetake adequate notes. Not only is his sarcasm hilarious, but it's clear he knows so much about the topic. Class will go by so fast if you take it with Tom!

I took Ornithology to fulfill my science requirement and I couldn't have picked a better professor to take it with. Tom makes all of the lectures engaging, fun and thought provoking -- the guy knows what he's talking about and is always ready with some witty comment to brighten up the room. I would totally recommend taking him if you can.

Professor Tyning is an excellent teacher, a great lecturer, easy to get along with.just pay attention and attend all classes and you would be lucky to attend his classes. i have taken his Botany and Zoology classes. he also has a new book out...get it 1

Very funny professor. Easy to talk to and quick-witted. All tests are multiple choice though and leave out a bulk of the material that they should include. Tests are comprised of a elementary concepts or anecdotes from class. But you can learn a lot from the book if you want and from class; just don't expect it to be reflected in the exam.

Tom Tyning is easily, by far the best professor I have ever had. He is a great teacher, very clear, with a good sense of humor, which he can tie in to his lessons quite well. Take a class with Tom Tyning, you most certainly won't regret it

tom is the best teacher i have ever had. not only a conservation teacher, but a dedicated naturalist who has devoted much of his life. in class he is very funny even at 7 a.m. he will pick fun of human stupidity and has a good sense of humor.

Comment:

Took the honors colloquim - Sustainable ecotourism in the Berkshires. Both he and Charlie Weinstein were awesome teachers, and we all learned so much. One of the BEST classes I ever had. I'd recommend Tom's teachings any day. He knows his stuff, and really cares and practices what he teaches. Cape Cod trip was terrific too!

Excellent teacher! I was mildly interested when I started and passionate about environmental science after I took that class. He is one of the few teachers who can make you remember complex concepts because he has such funny and true sayings. Study hard, attend his all labs and lectures - laugh your A-- off and get an A+!!! Highly recommend him!

Tom is the man! If you participate in labs and goto class he will do anything to help you if needed. He is fun and a little wierd at times but who-cooks-for-you? who-cooks-for-you-all! you'll understand if you've had him. Great guy should be easy credits
