He is boring in lecture, he expects us to know but the material by doing 2 examples >:( Grade is based on 5 test (4 unit test and the final). He also gives extra credit but you have to do what it seems 200 math problems. Additionally, he gives 1 optional replacement test and quiz at the end of every lecture, open notes

WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD! The material for this class is cake but he explains the concept in the most confusing way, expects you to know everything, doesn't answer questions clearly, the entire class is lost in lecture. Tests are the only grade and the 5pt bonus assignment is 300 questions minimum. I only passed cause I taught myself everything.

If you're someone that enjoys teaching yourself for the whole semester, then this class is for you. Otherwise, run away! he expects his students to teach themselves. runs through lectures as if we already know the material. He does have bonus assignments but they're 300 questions only for 5 points. don't waste your time or money with this class!!

Honestly, kinda boring in lecture but he knows how to explain the material. Your grade is based on 5 test (4 unit test and the final). He also gives extra credit but you have to work for it. Additionally, he gives 1 optional replacement test if you did bad in any of the unit test.

Prof Rickman is a good choice. Easy to get help with many tutoring sessions or if classes gets out early You can stay for help. There are 5 test total in the class with quizzes that are worth 10% of the test. For home work/ ec he gives a sheet with a lot of questions you get 1-5 point for it you dont have to do all to get 5. 100% would take again

Sleeps thru office hours, which are weird 35/45min intervals. Horrible at explaining concepts, grade is avg of 5 tests it's obvious his course is set up for the least amount of work on his end. This is one teacher who is NOT here for his students success. DO NOT take him unless there's no other option. You will end up teaching yourself out txtbook

I took Rickman for both calc 2 and 3. He does a good job of explaining concepts, but in these math classes you *must* practice to succeed. he offers bonus assignments for extra credit on tests with no graded homework. the bonus assignments are long but worth it, both for the points and practice. he's also pretty generous with partial credit

awful teacher, when u have a question his answers are long winded and dont even give you the answer youre liiking for. If you dont get something you feel belittled for it. truly an awful teacher that teaches way too fast

This class is based off of only 5 test grades. 4 unit tests and the final but on each test you can get up to an extra 15 points if you complete the bonus assignment homeworks and the end of lecture quizzes to encourage doing homework and coming to class for extra leeway. Loved this class and I hatemath. It was a breeze but assignments were long.

I've had Rickman from college algebra up through calc III and i have to say he has been my favorite professor. His lectures are so organized you can always look back through you notes and makes sense of the material. His exams come straight from the in class examples too. He is very timely and always stays right on schedule without skipping anythin

Rickman is a very cool professor. Class is difficult as any upper level math class but he breaks it down so everyone in the class can understand the material. All of the in class material will make you more than prepared for the exams! Glad i took him!

Beside the copious homework (extra credit), there is no mandatory homework and the only grade comes from four exams and a final. That said, he is a very good lecturer and gives you exactly what you need to nail his exams and explains the content thoroughly and intuitively. I totally enjoyed going to his class and would take him again if needed!!

Before taking Rickman I heard a lot of bad things about his teaching style and the difficulty of his class, but after taking him I wanted to set the record straight. Rickman is a great choice as a professor because he lays out everything you need for the test and is an extremely fair grader. If you take notes, you should EASILY be able to get a B.

Prof. Rickman is not a bad professor but he doesn't seem to be able to get the math topic across to some of us "math- challenged" students that don't exactly grasp the topic right off the bat, he made us use our new topic in a new quiz in the last 15 min of class. I don't think he knows how to teach down. I got an F from him & B from another prof.

He enforces the SSC attendance policy (miss X% > withdrawal). The bonus assignment is long, long, long. He's very nice and his lectures are good, though I've had better because he sometimes gets a little technical. Your entire grade is 4 exams and 1 final. You get to repeat your lowest exam and the bonus is 5 percentage points for that exam/final.

Comment:

He gives good lectures and examples but there wasn't really an interaction with the students if they didn't participate in class. Take good notes, do the extra credits (or at least start to because they're really long) and you'll be fine. The tests are exactly what he teaches and he is helpful if you are having trouble understanding something.

Comment:

Professor Rickmans classes are definitely meant for those strong in math skills, if you aren't already strong in your understanding of the concepts of algebra, you probably will not be prepared for this class. Only test grades count, so make sure to STUDY! Im taking him again for trig, his teaching style worked well for me.

Professor Rickman isn't perfect but he gets the job done. He makes small mistakes so be aware and ask questions. I highly recommend doing the bonus assignments and well on the quizzes because they count towards your test grade and can bring you from a C to a A. ALSO CHECK GRADED TEST! Sometimes he grades them wrong so keep an eye out.

Please learn from my mistake. Don't risk getting an F on your transcript. If he is the only professor that fits into your schedule, just wait another semester. He's that terrible.
