Comment:
Professor Asmerom is incredibly smart, but has no business teaching a 101 level class. The material is needlessly difficult and does not remotely follow the lab associated with the class. He often expects us to understand concepts that are far too advanced for a 100 level class, and publicly announces his disappointment in us when we don't get it.

One of the most interesting and also difficult classes I've ever taken. Asmerom made EPS300 loosely structured with no syllabus and there was little to no feedback on our standing or group projects, and we wouldn't always cover material fully before an exam. He grades VERY generously but you need to actually try to get something right.

Comment:
Professor asmerom is clearly overqualified to be teaching entry level classes. He said it himself. He knows his material but is condescending to people who don't answer correctly or don't know the answer. He can be inspirational but unfortunately his pep talks aren't on the exams. He claims to use his slides for the exams but it's not always true.

Can be tough. If you actually want to learn, take this class. If you are willing to participate and engage, take this class. This class is enjoyable if you enjoy science. This is not a class in which you can just show up and not listen/engage. Your grade will catch up with you slowly through quizzes. Professor expects willingness and effort

His class is based on lectures and group modules. He urges his students to use "higher order thinking" and treats the class as though it weren't a 101 class. If you have a course with him, be prepared to sit through random stories.

Professor Asmerom isn't the typical 101 easy professor. He makes you work for your grade, it's not an easy A course. The material is a bit challenging, but it is doable. As long as you go to class, pay attention, take notes, be "engaged" (as he says) you'll pass. At first he appears mean but as you get to know him he's a cool and inspirational guy.

He relies mostly on the presentations and says that we have to review those for the quizzes even though there are only pictures. Every week you have 2 group modules and 1 individual quiz due which makes up most of your grade. If you are not an auditory learner you will have a really hard time learning. If you hate yourself, take this class.

Comment:
Mr. Asmerom did a rather poor job of conveying information to the class. His powerpoints, which he claimed had everything we'd need for exams were nothing but pictures and a few words. The exams, however, were very complex and demanded a detailed understanding of every subject he covered. He does nothing but lecture and it's really hard to follow.

Professor obviously knows his stuff, however he also expects everyone else to know his stuff as well. He teaches in a way that makes you uncomfortable asking questions and puts students on the spot all the time. At the beginning of the semester he says he would rather us really learn the material than get through it all, but then rushes at the end.

Honestly the most inspirational professor I've ever had. He cares more about teaching students the meaning of hard work, which matters a lot because it's a 101 class and most people take it for the required credit. He also has a great sense of humor, and he'll like you as long as you participate in class and are respectful.

Profesor Asmerom has been inspirational. Not only he explains geology so generously, he gives free life lessons that no other profesor has given me throughout my college career. I am not a test taker, but believe me, I know more about geology than I ever hoped to retain. I even know how to build a energy sufficient home (not part of the syllabus)!

If you aren't engaged, you won't pass, seriously. The critical thinking required is not the standard of 100 level classes. The quizzes are brutal, and the modules come from group work. If you don't look at the material outside of class also, you will fail also. So, if you are grown up about your academic career, you'll get an A+. Otherwise sad face

Intro to geochemistry was extremely difficult and the homework was hard even with help from the grad students. He is very brash, but very intelligent. I do not recommend taking this class unless you are super set on it. He requires participation inside and outside of class. His tests are quite difficult as well.

This man is rude, unwilling to work with students, treats everyone like they are fresh out of High School and should have memorized the periodic table of elements and is the only instructor I know that can spend 50 minutes talking about plasticity and elasticity. He is one of these instructors who has a PhD, but should not be teaching students.

He was a nice teacher but kind of strict, but he was willing to change the ways he taught for the class. There are quite a few things in his modules that do not show up in his lectures, so critical thinking is extremely important. A good thing is that you get to work in groups for modules.

Unless you are going to be a Geology Major do not take his 101 class. The amount of work you have to put in is absurd for a 100 level class.

Dr. Asmerom is not organized at all. He knows his materials, but has no idea how to share that with students, especially at a 101 level. He is incredibly inappropriate in class, throwing chalk at students & being completely unresponsive to questions. He doesn't answer emails. He is the last person you should take this class from if you like geology

This teacher provided his students with a lot of information for later use in life. Someone mentioned "wikipedia" but along with other teachers, he recommended it as a lift-off point for other sources.Hard grader, but I would recommend him to students serious about learning something.

Avoid this class and this prof....unorganized, no structure, ruined my GPA, and I put the most amount of effort into this class out of all. Doesn't help when the prof. doesn't reciprocate
