Comment:

Powell's sense of humor made me survive his heavy lectures. There were four exams and one other grade for the honors class ( the other grades consisted of a total of 8 short video summaries and two summaries of astronomical articles). everything on the exam comes from lectures, he doesn't upload his powerpoint. JUST SHOW UP AND YOU'LL DO FINE!

Comment:

Powell may be a bit old and talk too slowly for some, but I enjoyed his humor and knowledge. Very sweet man who will always ask about you and remember your face. However, we had 7 grades the whole class, 4 of which were tests. GO TO CLASS! The only material given is in his lectures (the book is useless).

Comment:

Dr. Powell is a really nice gentleman - primarily Physics professor with a big heart for Astronomy. Often cracks jokes in class while keeping them within the realm of Science. Lots of stories and pulls the lesson from them. If you want to pass, GO TO CLASS - he emphasizes what is on his tests. Don't need the book unless you want more information.

Attendance is KEY in this class. It's honestly the only way I passed the course, with an A!! I can't say that I learned a thing about astronomy. I sat through EVERY lecture confused. I failed every test, BUT so did everyone else, so every test was curved. The final exam is offered as extra credit with perfect attendance. Don't purchase book!

Dr. Powell knows astronomy, but he is hard to follow because he doesn't give many posted notes, you mainly have to take notes on what he says. He falls asleep a lot in class. Study everything you write down- even old notes- because he will surprise you with those on tests.

Dr. Powell is phenomenal. I loved his lectures and he did not mind taking the time to help his students. Such a great professor and human being. Very dedicated to his family, community, church, and God.

Dr. Powell is a very courteous, thoughtful professor. Although he has been described by students as "a human lullaby machine", his lectures can actually be pretty interesting and, at times, entertaining.

Very sweet man, but class was a bit boring. Then again, I hate astronomy, so that could have influenced my feelings. Pretty easy A if you take notes and pay attention...and try not to fall asleep!!! :P

Dr. Powell is nice and a good teacher, his lecture class is just really boring. I took alot of notes in his class, but I did the best on the tests when I read the chapters out of the book (that was the only time I used the book). The only extra credit offered is observations and he's not very generous with the grade curve, but all in all he's good.

One of the best teachers at the university. I was so nervous coming into my first year, but he made it all better. His class is very interesting and I highly recommend him. There are four test throughout the semester that come directly from the powerpoints. Come to class = easy A+

He is such a nice guy. I would come to class because his tests are mostly the power points. He really cares about his students and the subject. Lectures can get a little boring but I have taken this class twice and this is the best teacher to take it with.

GREAT PROF!!! I absolutely love this man. I should have had a C in the class, but because I was an attentive student he bumped me up to an A, and exempted me from the final. He reminds me of Mr. Magoo. Great character!
