If you can't deal with sarcasm/abrasive humor, Dr. James is not the professor for you. He is not a warm and fuzzy kind of guy, but he's not mean either. His lectures can be a bit unclear, and he's not the best or most helpful teacher, but he's also not the worst. He's got a lot of experience. Hated the class, but I would have hated it with any prof

Simply the worst. My first semester back to school and now I know to look up all my profs on here first before I book a class. I learned this lesson the hard way.... Avoid James..

I love this professor! He's a cool guy with laid back labs. I recommend that you take him for chemistry.

Dr. James is very unorganized and does not teach with any visual aids. He goes on tangents often and does not respond to emails (so don't even bother). You can do every homework he assigns you and read the entire textbook and will still fail every exam. If you can't get out of his class pray for a curve and enjoy his jokes.

I had James for CHEM 132 fall semester of my freshman year and believe me when I say, it was a stressful semester. His notes and lectures were not detailed at all and he was not very helpful in class; you have to hunt him down and speak one on one if you want to get any sort of help or clarity.

By far the worst professor I've ever had. Nothing he says makes any sense. I'm pretty sure he wakes up every morning, randomly organizes those rearrangeable word refrigerator magnets, and recites it in class for lecture. The only reason the University keeps him here is because of tenure. Avoid at all costs.

He doesn't make much sense when he talks. He did nothing but confuse me when he gave the lectures before lab; I was better off just reading the lab by myself and not listening to him rant the whole time I was trying to do the lab. He grades fairly, and he seems nice but if you're not looking to cry the whole time, don't take him. Beware.

I had James for general Chemistry 132. Despite the fact that I am relatively good at chemistry, I struggled very much in this class along with most of my classmates. James does not take the time to explain things well. He has no office hours and no interest in helping students who are struggling. By far the worst professor I have ever had. AVOID.

Dr. James is amazing! He is very fun to work with and is very sarcastic. He always comes around the room to help students who are having problems with their work. He gives lots of homework and he really challenges you, but he has inspired me to never give up.

Dr. James was my teacher for Gen Chem. He has only one upside: sometimes he says funny stuff in class. However, bar that aspect, he is by far the worst teacherprofessor I have ever had. He doesn't respond to e-mails. his lectures are confusing and I am left to prepare by myself to take impossibly hard chem tests. Avoid at all costs.

James was my worst professor this year, he wasn't clear with instructions and he never clearly answered questions. He did this weird roundabout thing where he never gave a clear answer but made it seem like he was answering the question. He assumes that you know everything that he's teaching and basically only works examples in class.

He will make you feel like an idiot if you ask questions... but it never really bothered me. He is a very strict grader and will not take late work. He is a horrible lecture professor, most of his class is failing. But lab is alright. Still... I would avoid him if possible.

I'm not really sure if he intentionally goes out of his way to confuse students or if he is incapable of being clear. Always seems angry. Constantly interrupts labs to yell about common-sense procedures. Plays favorites, so he may or may not answer your questions. I suggest avoiding if you have a choice.

He is an interesting and unique person who likes to use the same analogies over and over again. He is an easy grader, which is nice, since he does not explain assignments very well. The only thing he can really explain well is what to do in the laboratory, everything else is just confusing. Do not take him unless you can do a lot of outside work.

Really enjoyed the class. It was relevant to the rest of the humanities program and he was very interested in teaching. I really liked the way he teaches and liked the references to really bad science fiction movies. thanks Dr. James

Very strange man, but funny and interesting. He does tend to ramble a bunch and sometimes its hard to see where he is coming from or how what he is talking about is important. Like to say "Whats this" a bunch and 99% of the time the class just stares back blankly. Likes to pick people out in the class to use as Examples. Does not explain term paper

Throughout the class, I could never decide if Charles James was an idiot or a genius in his own right. Very interesting professor, easy grader and gives partial credit for completely wrong answers, but rambles a LOT.

His recitations result in nothing but rambling. I walk out wondering what that had to do with Monday's lecture. "Whats This?" will be a common phrase you will hear. Some will enjoy his style, but he probably has no idea who I am in a 16 person class, nor hardly anyone else. Grading is fair. Dont email, he wont respond. Go with a different professor
