Comment:

The majority of the negative reviews come from students that are too lazy to do the work it takes to do well in this class. Yes, it's a lot of reading, and yes, you have to study hard for the tests/quizzes. However, this class is not impossible. Nifong isn't out to get anyone; he's actually very willing to help if you're willing to try.

Comment:

Great teacher, very challenging and he pays a lot of attention to detail. BUT he drops about half of the quizzes (which are every day) It was a ton of reading, but he goes over the reading every class and he helped me out by giving me study tips. People are just lazy and don't want to do the work that it takes. I expect to make an A in this class!

His teaching method is completely irrelevant to literature...? It's all memorization of names and quotes. I'm an English major, and this was torture. You have to read SO meticulously... No one has time for that. I knew the stories so well, read multiple times and still barely passed the test. AVOID.

I am taking Nifong now, and so far, he seems very difficult. His quizzes have questions from the footnotes and references, the class is very boring, and he gets pissed of real easy. AVOID AT ALL COST

World Lit with Nifong made my semester VERY hard. He assigns a ton of readings, and he quizzes over the smallest details that have nothing to do with the actual story. Tests aren't that hard, but he did have a tendency to be rude to students at times.

This class is a waste of time with a lot of useless and repetitive material. World Lit is about literature not in depth History. The quizzes are gamble even if you have read.

Never have I been so glad to be done with a class. He's not a bad guy, but what he tests and quizzes you over is completely irrelevant to the theme of what you read. The class isn't impossible, but if you know you won't keep up with daily readings, do NOT take him, you will regret it. Half my class ended up dropping.

Everyone who is saying Nifong is terrible is just lazy. Yes, you have to read the material, and yes, you have to take notes. We're in college. That's what you do. Go to class, take the notes, listen carefully. Details are on the test. Read the book and pay close attention to the characters and you can make an A. Not as hard as everyone says.

There's a lot of reading. He gives reading quizzes after every assignment but drops the lowest two. He is pompous and rude but that's the worst part about the course. I did mediocre on quizzes, attended all classes, got a C on the first test and then studied like he told us to, and got two A's on the test and an A in the class.

Yeah he doesnt take bs from students. He makes you read alot, and his quiz/test questions are very specific. But this is a college professor, so it isnt going to be easy. Just read the material like he asks and u will be able to answer questions with no problem. Dont go in expecting the normal easy lit class, its college. Real college.

HEAVEN FORBID you have a class in college where you have to work! Yes this is a course that requires you to actually read the material he assigns. I did what he told me and made an A. Don't let people scare you just read what he tells you and take notes during his lectures; lots of things he will mention once in class and test you on it.

RUN FAR FAR AWAY!!! If you are thinking that he can't possibly be as bad as everyone says, you're wrong. I have always gotten As in my literature classes and no matter how hard I studied I still failed this class. Drop it now while you can take the other class that is in the same category. If you value your GPA & sanity DO NOT take Nifong.

He was absolutely the worst professor I have EVER come in contact with. The work load is ridiculous. The quizzes and tests are almost impossible unless you spend ALL of your time reading and memorizing. Do not take this class unless you are not taking anything else because in order to pass you must put an insane amount of time into it.

Worst professor I have ever had. Like many others, I read the comments here and thought I would be ok, but when I got into the class and saw the horrible way he treated his students, and realized the RIDICULOUS workload, I dropped. He is not afraid to publicly ridicule students or call you out for not reading as well as he does. Avoid at all costs!

He makes his class harder than it needs to be, assigns an unreasonable amount of reading every night,and has very knitpickey specific daily quiz questions. But mostly what I don't like about him is the degrading way that he treats students and the class as a whole. He is critical and verbally sarcastic and rude to students who haven't done anything

The only class I have ever had to DROP! Listen to these comments because they are all true..I didn't and now I have to retake the class next semester. I am a good, hard-working student and english is by far my best subject but he wants you to only focus your attention on his class! Basically, HE IS AWFUL!!! AVOID!

Completely useless teacher. His daily quizzes are over stuff you haven't gone over (and sometimes you don't even do that - but will most likely be on the test), his discussions are pointless and full of him stroking his ego, and his tests are IMPOSSIBLE. I'm a straight A student and had to struggle desperately to keep it that way. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!

this man is by far the worst professor i have ever had. he gets joy out of making people feel like idots in front of everyone. he never called me out but he loves being a ****bag to anyone he can. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!! he tries to trick his students on tests whenever possible. i love literature but i despise him. worst teacher ever.
