Dr. Minkel a truly awesome professor. He knows his stuff, and is willing to help you out if need be. He helped to spark my interest in geology, which has been really fun to pursue. I'm definitely glad that I took his class!

Comment:

Dr. Minkel is very smart on the topics he teaches. Sometimes I felt he excepted too much from the students for an intro course. If you think this course is going to be easy and you will be looking at stars, think again. This class if more of an astrophysics class rather than astronomy. The labs are very difficult and the tests are also hard.

Don Minkel is a great professor. He sparked my interest for the study of geology and I ended up transferring after my gen eds were complete and majoring in geology. He knows his stuff and carries such an amazing passion for real world issues that he incorporates into all of his classes. I truly cannot thank him enough

Dr. Minkel ROCKS! (no pun intended) He is the greatest when it comes to knowing anything about the Earth's processes. He REALLY knows his stuff. Gives clear guidelines for what is expected from you and if you follow them you will do great. Listen to the lectures. He gives great analogies and has some crazy stories and ways to remember things...

Extremely intelligent, helpful. Even gave my daughter a "rock" tour! Loved the field trips, passed on my excitement of what I learned to my daughters ears. Intrigued her enough to want to meet dr. Minkel! Take notes in class and read. Study and you'll do fine. Don't concentrate on vocabulary!

Passionate about Climate Change! READ THE BOOK. ALWAYS goes above and beyond to helpclarify difficult subjects. Don't expect multiple choice tests- they will be short answerdrawing diagrams and charts. MUST UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS, not just vocab. He's hilarious, and one of the most knowledgeable individuals I've ever met. Expert of many fields.

Took ASTRONOMY 101 with Dr. Mikel at the Wilton campus in '12. I've never taken a college level sci course and found the course material tough. Prof. Mikel was always available, NEVER talked down to me when I didn't understand, and really knows his stuff. If you can't handle a REAL college class, then don't take him. BC he's the real deal!

I had him for astronomy.....I am a wiz in that subject in science and he knew that as well. Minkel callenged us and I was suprised that I only recieved a B+. I was not happy with that but it was a very challenging, rewarding class. He is very knowledgable!

He was one of my favorite professors easily. Very smart. I had zero interest in taking that class but ended up doing very well because I enjoyed it. Field trips were awesome and got to see lots of cool and beautiful things!

Really great professor you can learn a lot if u want to. Be prepared to stretch your brain around the universe if you take astro the material is very challenging. The course description makes it seem easier, Minkel is great if you show interest & actually try, very reasonable and helpful. (He does not hate astrostudents he expects them to try)

Dr. Minkle loves what he does, and is very dedicated to it. He is flexable, and always available. He will help you if you ask...and is very approachable. His teaching method is good, and he shares many fun stories. Great class for a lab-science requirement..but don't take if not commited. There is a lot of reading, and understanding of text.

He seems to not like teaching this class. He says they call it astronomy to lure you in, but it's really Astro Physics. A very difficult course with complex math background being a MUST.
