Please DO NOT TAKE Dr. Nelson. Calc 2 is one of the most difficult math classes you can take and I had to self-teach myself ALL of the content. He is unorganized and bad at answering questions. He is a nice guy who tries his best to help and I miraculous got an A, but I would NOT put myself through that again if i had the choice.

He is very knowledgeable, but he cannot explain anything. He skips lots of steps, cannot follow any kind of structured explanation, and has four difficult tests and a final with no study guide. They contained few questions with next to no partial credit. Get ready to teach yourself. I enjoy math but this class was one big headache. Thumbs down.

Comment:
Donald Nelson is a terrible professor. He doesn't teach the material, instead he'll just pick random problems from the book and try to solve them on the board. He gets lost halfway through solving them and often takes an entire class to solve a problem. He has a tendency to be rude when you ask a question. You are better off learning on your own.

One of the most caring profs I have ever had. Sometimes he cant find a different way to explain concepts to people who are struggling but he will keep trying until you understand. Kind, funny, lenient grader. Lots of ungraded homework that he expects students to ask questions about in class. Very helpful outside of class as well.

Dr. Nelson is extremely passionate about math and he is a great mathematician, however, he is not good at teaching. He doesnt give any partial credit. Also, we took 4 tests and 1 final without any study guides. I had to do a lot of learning on my own.

He's a really nice guy and seems to be passionate about mathematics but he just isn't a good teacher. He grades pretty leniently if you show up to class and do your work. Also, he doesn't assign a lot of homework which sucks. We had maybe 3-5 homework assignments the entire semester. Also, no quizzes. You really need to study hard for him.

Dr. Nelson is awesome! He is vastly underrated! MTSU has a great math department. Math is tough and the professor often becomes the object of wrath when the student does not grasp it. Dr. Nelson spurred me on when my confidence was low. Work hard and you will be fine!
