Comment:
His exams are horrible and tricky, and the written portion it's worth too many points (50% on the final). It doesn't matter if you're doing well w/ homework and understanding the material, the exams will crush you and he seems to enjoy it! AVOID if you don't have a strong chem background. He doesn't do a good job explaining. But hey, he's funny.

Comment:
This professor is very rude to students, unclear in his lectures, and unrealistic with expectations on exams. He asks for exceptions to the rules mostly, and the majority of questions stem from this. You are only responsible for lecture/ppt. material, but if you don't understand it, the book does not follow or help. Had to take him for my major.

Freitas was not cute. His exams weren't too bad throughout the semester but the final exam he just absolutely destroyed everybody. He had no mercy. Try to take another professor if you can but if you can't be wary of the final exam. It was horrifying

I had him for biochem and he was awesome. Chem is not my cup of tea but he was very helpful and easy to understand (a rare gift among chem teachers here), and the banter between him and the other biochem profs was highly entertaining. As long as you go to class to hear the lecture you should have no problem in class. Take this guy!

Dr. Freitas is helpful, clear, makes us laugh, doesn't talk too fast, is very willing to see us, even answers questions through email, and his accent is very sweet-if you study right after class you can still hear it in your mind when you read, especially the word regulation. Class is interesting and ties together a lot of stuff from other courses.

incredible lecturer. Liking a professor and acknowledging their abilities are completely different. Especially premeds, know that there will be many a doctor you despise, but their knowledge and abilities will make them indisposable. Learn to separate personal and professional. :)

I honestly can't remember one thing that he taught. I probably missed half of his classes because he taught right from the powerpoint and it was a waste of time to even go to class. Hope that he and others can find a better way of teaching this class in the future.

Relatively easy to get along with and his test had the highest average because he did a good job of explaining the material and focusing on what you need to know. His sense of humor is very dry and takes a little time to get used to, but I'll definitely miss his teaching style. Plus he has a hot Russian accent. (Just kidding!)

He should cut back a little on the sarcasm, not everyone finds it hilarious, it can sometimes be offensive. Besides that he's good to his students and gives helpful examples. And honestly I think he's kind of cute. (Heres your red pepper)

de freitas is hilarious, dont get why people think hes insensitive or uncaring. biochem was sorta fun cuz he kept it light with humor, he wants to see his students succeed. the walk of shame was a nice touch ;)

This is the best professor in the Chemistry Department. He is very attentive to students' needs. His sense of humor is very entertaining and unique. I wish all of my professors in Chemistry were like him. Very approachable, and very under-appreciated.

I don't think he be a bad teacher if he'd just shut up and teach us what we need to know. I really don't care what this site says about him, but I figured if he read it so much, maybe he'd get the message that he should really do his job. I don't care about stupid people that sit in the front row. I care about learning biochemistry!

lol - those earlier comments are bogus. Dr. DeFreitas is an awesome teacher. He has a great sense of humour which makes class less painful and actually enjoyable to sit through. Yes, biochem is hard...don't take it if you don't want to work for your grade. His test questions are straight forward.

Strangest accent ever, he doesn't really open his mouth - the voice just comes out of his throat. Very wierd. He has a dry sence of humor. Actually that is an understatement. His humor is like the Mojave Desert. He tends to pick on students, but its funny so no one really gets offended. Biochem is tough, study your butt off.

He is kind of creepy and has a sinister vibe about him. Not very helpful, he relies on grad students to do his work - very uncommon at Loyola. I would not recommend him for anything.

So true, he's my hero. Class was bearable because of him. He's a nice guy, a little sarcastic, but when a student has it comming they do. Study and you will do well. we got so much more done when Andre realized his kneepads didn't work anymore.
