I've taken three classes from Professor Atkins. He is an excellent teacher and has helped me understand how studying English literature applies to life beyond the classroom. He is not an easy grader, but expectations are fair and grades must be earned. He is the best teacher I have ever had and has greatly impacted both my education and life.

I didn't like him at first, but over the semester the class grew to be one of my favorites. My writing improved in his class, so if that's your goal it will definitely happen. He's retiring at the end of this year so this review is basically worthless. He's got quite a few books published, so you can be sure he knows what he's talking about.

G. D. Atkins is simply one of kind. He's a teacher that you will rarely come across on any campus or around the country. He holds a high standard for every one of his students and holds a personal interest in every student. He will quickly become an inspirational figure. The class is difficult, though, and not for the novice English students.

G. Douglas Atkins is a wonderful professor, and a great guy. Take his class, sure, but also go to his office hours. Get to know the man behind the beard. It's worth it. Beneath the slow speech lies a subtlety of wit and insight unlike most other professors/people in general. Take English for your grades. Take Atkins for your mind.

Prof. Atkins was one of the best professors I had. Like others have said, he genuinely cares about his subject and his students. He expects you to forth a great deal of thought in your work, so do not slack off. Classmates and I joke about him being a mix between God and Stanta. Just take his class and see for yourself.

At first I didn't like Atkins, but by the third week into the semester, I really enjoyed going to his class. He gave us the option of choosing what we wanted to write about, and genuinely cared if we improved as writers. He had very insightful things to say about everything we read, and he encouraged discussion. G. Doug rocks. Take this calss!

He is a very difficult professor, but definitely worth your time. A large amount of effort is required for this class, but you will improve skills unlike some English classes that seem to reiterate everything you've already learned. He is sometimes hard to understand and very quirky (in a funny way). Genuinely interested in his students' writing!

Professor Atkins made this course an incredible experience. He doesn't just teach great works of literature; he genuinely cares about cultivating his students' intellects. While this class is not for those looking for a breezy 'A', it's an invaluable course for those willing to put in the time, effort, and thought necessary to succeed.

He is a truly terrible and manipulative teacher. His positive reviews are from people who have played his game. He only accepts his way of doing things and is completely uncaring about his students efforts. He never gives back grades and is unwilling to give a clear outline of what he wants.

This was the best english class i've ever had. The only problem I had with the course was that he didn't like it when you disagreed with him and anything that contradicted his opinions was wrong. He grades essays very throughly but the classroom discussions totally make the class. I never wanted to miss a class, i liked it so much.

I may not know much as a Freshman, but it seems like Prof. Atkins is the model college professor. Always prepared for class. While at times he was very vague on what he wanted for assignments, I believe it encouraged students to aspire to do great quality work. I can't recommend this professor enough. By far the best English teacher I've had.

I didn't realize that there still WERE professors who actually care enough about students to bring out their best work from them. I learned so much from this essay class. This man KNOWS what he is talking about. You must take this class!

A generally disappointing professor. He's a very nice man up front, but would regularly talk about other students' performances to other students, which is incredibly inappropriate.

He is interesting and witty but a TERRIBLE professor. He was never clear about the guidelines for assignments, and he was vague on his grading criteria. When asked specific questions about assignments or grades, he was evasive. I planned on using him as my thesis advisor, but changed my topic after having him for this class! I do not recommend him.

Dr. Atkins is, in short, the best professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. He is extremely demanding when it comes to quality of writing, but he helps you much more than most other professors. You find yourself wanting to live up to his expectations, and thus the quality of your work increases, too.

The man's amazing and a genius. Great professor, I learned a lot from him and enjoyed his class. He one time gave me a ride to my next class when it was icy and very cold outside. A class act.

Very witty, very friendly man. He never failed to encourage students, and made class more fun than I believed possible. He was flexible according to students' interests and needs. Every student was responsible for presenting part of the material, and for "workshopping" each others' essays. I was never bored or confused.
