Comment:

George Monahan became the bane of my existence. He assigned three exams total, that was it. On top of that, the exams are based off of work you do on your own, outside of class. Asks you to purchase a $100 textbook, that was never opened. His lectures had no substance, and he would go off topic constantly. However, he is extremely educated.

If you are a history major pay attention! Professor Monahan is really the guy to learn from. He leaves studying up to you basically he doesnt want you to take this class for just credit. He wants you to actually know your stuff.

unless youre a history major, youre not going to do well. very difficult with his test. great explainer and understanding points in history not well with course material.

He can definitely be a lot to handle but the class is very simple. Show up to class and take the practice quizzes before the tests. The questions are word for word so it is impossible to do bad if you memorize them. In class just be respectful and go along with his tangents, they can be a real joy.

Horribl Professor more than half of the students in this class failed including me I had maintained a B all throughout the semester. But all of the sudden at the end of the semester he gives me an F I asked to speak to him during the summer about my grade, he said he will be on vacation the whole semester and to see him when he gets back.

I took Dr. Monahan this semester for Western Civ 102. He takes attendance very seriously and does not accept phones being out. If youre easily offended you shouldnt take this class. He has an odd or dark sense of humor but hes very smart. Gives 3 quizzes and gives you all the answers, u have to study hard for the final though; i loved this class

I took Professor Monahan 2 years ago. Please be advised to look on the website that he gives you on the first day. Sudy hard and DO the practice quiz! Just a warning he doesnt have a filter if your easily offended do not take the class. Please take what what he says with a grain of salt he has a odd sense of humor. Good luck everyone.

I took both HIS 101 and HIS 102 with Dr. Monahan. On the first day he was scary, but the things he says are mainly just to intimidate you. His lectures do not help you on the tests but it is mandatory that you show up and pay attention. I would make study guides for each test and make sure you prepare for the final when he gives you the essay topic

Before I took Dr. Monahan I was on this site. I saw many bad reviews and people were telling me hes horrible but in all honestly I dont think so. He talks about wanting to turn his students into scholars and do good by learning how to be on time and not miss a class. I believe he only has 4 tests and you should take notes during lectures. Easy.

Doesn't use textbook at all, don't waste your money on it. Strict with attendance. Don't get caught on your phone or you will regret it, it really isn't worth it. No homework. He has 3 graded assignments: exam 1, exam 2, exam 3, and final essay. Lecture material not on exams; just study the online quizzes bc that's whats on the exams.

Monahan will come off tough. He checks attendance almost every single class. He seems strict but he is a funny guy after you get through a few classes. He easily gets off topic, but when he does it's pretty amusing to hear his stories. He doesn't use the textbook at all. There was no homework whatsoever. There are 3 exams and 1 final research essay

I've taken 3 classes with Dr. Monahan, he can be intimidating at first but once you give him a chance, he's really a smart and funny guy. He has a very strict moral code, especially with cell phones in class but he always keeps every class entertaining. Tests are very easy as long as you study, if you study you will get an A on every assignment.

Even though this professor gives no homework, your graded on 4 items. They are 3 multiple choice exams, and an essay. The last multiple choice exam and essay are the final, so if you fail the 1st 2 exams, don't bother coming back to class because there is no makeups or retakes. Monohan is a nice guy, but there is little wiggle room for failure

Very inspirational, smart, funny. Can be a bit dramatic especially with comparing life decisions to your academic performance. Otherwise, show up, youll pass

Professor at first seems very mean but he is actually a really nice man. A very strict man who really knows his history. He is very tough on attendance but motivates students to always try there best. I just wish his lectures weren't just him talking the whole time.

Comment:

At first, professor Monahan seemed like one of the worst professors at SCCC, but in all honesty, he grows on you. His class is easy if you study for the quizzes and take diligent notes. Yes, he's loud and comes off as intimidating to some, but he really is a sweetheart. You cannot go wrong with this professor, a solid choice, an easy A.

Comment:

Good teacher, very interesting lectures, I was never bored in his class and I definitely learned a lot. HOWEVER he is VERY OPINIONATED about certain things and if you're a confrontational person you will not get along. Also: he's a harsh grader, you're gonna actually have to work hard and study a lot on the online questions to get a good grade.

He sits there the whole class talking about topics, most of which will not be on the test. He's usually weeks behind so by the time you take test two, you'll still be covering material that was meant for test one. He does give you instructions on where to find all the questions for the tests, but it's tedious work. Overall I felt it was pointless.
