Comment:
Dr. Jenstad is brilliant, knowledgable, and super cool. She takes a while to warm up, but that doesn't mean she doesn't like you. She is really supportive of students with a special interest in theatre or the 16th and 17th centuries. She does take a frustratingly long time to return assignments - I didn't get my final grade for 2 months.

She is very nice, but a terrible teacher. Disorganized, loses assignments, takes weeks to return grades, and is very unclear about what she expects from her odd assignments. Knowledgeable about Shakespeare, as it is clearly her passion, but abysmally bad at explaining anything to anyone.

Comment:
I took this course because it is a pre-req for medical school. Worst mistake of my life. Janelle is not a bad teacher, but the course material is beyond dry and the TA's marking is RIDICULOUS. The TA's mark the assignments mercilessly and have a serious preference for humanities students over science students. Avoid this class at all costs!

To be honest, Janelle is rather nice. That being said, I would not recommend taking her course. It's one thing to be a tough marker, but another to wait until a week into the next semester to give grades back (on all assignments) and still have the gull to give a failing grade. The not knowing will drive you mad.

Nice prof who really knows Shakespeare --she researches heavily and students benefit from it. Very into historical context as well as Early Modern book making. Very, very slow marker however and very few assignments other than reading quizzes.

She is a very knowledgeable Professor, however can tend to be degrading to students if they ask a question that she thinks is rhetorical. Definetely not a course for you if you are not into literature.

Her classes were fun and she was enthusiastic. If you're not into an English lit course then don't take the class.

Dr. Jenstad was one of the most intelligent, articulate & engaging professors I've ever had. I'm an upper year student who still had to take a first year course for core reqs and I'm so glad I ended up in her class. She normally teaches upper level courses, so she's a bit tougher, but I still loved her. Very knowledgable & has a sense of humor too.

Dr. J's new hairstyle is awesome! It brings the Bard to life for me in a way that Sarah Palin's neologisms never could. If Shakespeare has a direct descendant, it's Dr. J. Take her class or go through life forever an intellectual pipsqueak. Suck it up, haters.

She's a nice person and is very interested in Shakespeare, but this is not a great course for your first 3rd year English. She expects that you already know a lot of the jargon and overly complicated terms and so does not explain them in much detail. She isn't very clear on what she expects for assignments. She's a pretty good prof though.

Great teacher, really loves what she teaches, has an incredible knowledge of all of Shakespeare's plays. 4 assignments or so, reading quizzes, and a final. Very fair and helpful, recommended.

Don't judge her too hastily...she likes to keep you "engaged" with lots of little assignments, but she is truly enthusiastic. If you share that, you will be fine. Do the required work, embrace your inner actor, and you will do fine...she will reward you for your effort. Slack off, do the minimum, and you will get stung. She's fair...don't sweat it

Not particularly inspiring. I feel like I wasted an opportunity to really study the verse and the psychology and philosophy that makes Shakes the preeminent genius. Instead, we memorized monologues, historical details re: performance, names of differnt parts of a stage. Yikes. Go Grant or Kuchar.

"Dr J" is somewhat annoying, but she knows her crap. She tends to repeat the same argument in all of her courses (leaky women theory). She also likes to talk about her personal life, especially her insomnia, which she uses as an excuse to hand back assignments and midterms late. If you want to take a Shakespeare course, take one taught by Grant.

Let's count her hang-ups into the double digits. I'll begin: makes inane 'Star Trek' references, gives quizzes about pedantic details of plays, grumbles about her insomnia and other problems during lectures, favours certain students and shows blatant contempt for others, takes forever to return assignments, and the list continues...

Dr. Jenstad is an awesome prof. She is genuinely interested in what she is teaching and it shows. Be prepared to show up to her classes though, or you'll miss about 4 pages of good notes.

I love shakespeare, and it's awful to have a prof butcher it. Thankfully Jenstad is enthusiastic and full of knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed her classes - they never seemed long enough. Yes, the exam was hand-crampingly long, but Jenstad is fair and truly helpful. I recommend her highly.
