I read many of the positive posts and these people could not be more misguided. I had a very strong background in film prior to this class and this professor couldnt not possibly know less about the subject. I believe I lost intelligence while in his class. His grades are completely subjective with no clear guidelines. DROP IMMEDIATELY!

While making my 200 projects was generally fun the restrictions he put on the students was difficult, such as having to shoot off-campus (not everyone has a car). He was semi-helpful in terms of comments. He does tend to lean towards the cliche, but he means well. I did poorly on my first film but by the end I got an A, so not too bad...

John is Decent. He's a nice guy and all...he kind of caters to the Prod majors. Dont really expect him to like any of your stuff unless it is basic and cliche'. As soon as you step outside the box..he doesn't "understand" your work and suggests alternative ways of doing things...All in all, Decent. Not bad, not good

I had John for my jr film project. He's always been one of my favorite profs at LMU. Heard alot of people ragging on him also, but I only saw good things from him. Always listened, always insightful. Very helpful. My stuff was wierd too...he never minded.

At first I really disliked him because he was unreasonable about us getting permits and he could not comprehend how that could possibly be difficult..."Well, if you're going to be in production, you should have a car." Gee, want to give me one? WIth him its all about figuring out how to make him like you. He could be better but also a LOT worse.

I heard nothing but poor things about this guy for four years, so I must say I was pleasantly surprised. He's not really helpful with his comments, and he's a little bit old-fashioned, but he's really adamant about you dong your best work, and he allows you to be free to do the kind of movie you want to make. Not the best, but far from the worst.

He is a really nice guy and likes to challenge people to create more. He will help you by challenging you, but don't expect him to like anything you make. That being said, he doesn't grade you down because he doesn't like it.

John is a good guy. He isnt the most articulate person but he cares about his students and their films. I wish he was more critical sometimes but no one is perfect. He offers good feedback and is open and considerate of your vision.

I had John for all 3 production classes. We didn't see eye-to-eye at all with regard to our interests & he didn't like any of my student films, but I have to say he challenged me creatively & I sincerely appreciate that.

He is good and very insightful. But as with most classes, he will not lay his ideas and good input on you unless you ask him. He knows what is good and what isn;t

He was really passionate and open about everyone's films and encouraged the use of a student's personal style in his or her film. His lectures were interesting and he was very clear about your grade throughout the semester.

Very boring in lecture. Did not really provide instruction as to how to make your film better. His comments make you feel okay about yourself until you see the actual grade you got. Gives A's to pet students. Must be c-tog genius to get good grade.

Comment:
John Stewart sucked. He was unclear in his class specifications and made you feel like you were getting a certain grade and then turned on you like a pit bull. He's also uninterested in your project and behaves like a circa 1960's pothead.
