More than I could ever hope for in a foreign language class. Possibly the best college professor I will ever have. Helps you with anything you might not understand or questions you may have. Homework is the best practice for learning the material. Lots of speaking Japanese in class. Better than Rosetta Stone.

This is a very hard class, you need to be completely focused on this class, study a lot at home and pay attention in class. She will tell you things that won't be in the book, and you will use the book every day (Kana Ver). She is very Japanese in that she is strict and expects a lot from you.She is also funny. Buthis isn't a class to take for fun.

I loved this class. Howard-sensei is an amazing teacher, and is very hands-on. However, her class requires complete focus and willingness to learn the language. If you just want to sit around, you're not going to do well in the class at all. Studying is really important, too. As long as you study, attend class, and participate, you'll do fine.

Howard Sensei is a great teacher. She is a native speaker and has a lot of knowledge. She teaches in Japan twice a year so her knowledge of the language is up to date. If you don't like studying or reading course material DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This isn't one you can breeze through. Memorize the Kana as fast as you can it makes EVERYTHING easier.

VERY FUN CLASS, IT IS A LITTLE FAST-PACED, BUT IF YOU PUTOUR EFFORT AS WELL AND STUDY-YOU WILL BE WAY ALRIGHT--THE TEACHER IS FUN AND MAKES EVERYONE CLASS, MAKES THE CLASS NOT BORING AT ALL.

i withdrew from this class the 1st 2 weeks. it was way to fast for me to understand in class. missed 1 day came back confuse. she has native speakers to help in class. picks on u to speak in class. fun class but not the class for me. came w/little knowledge left w/some. if i stayed i would have learned a lot, good class just too fast for me

I absolutely love her class! She is very helpful, clear & direct. Fantastic teaching style, let's you enjoy yourself but calls for focus when needed. Very easy to talk to. You can ask her anything! I am definitely planning on taking JAP2 from her. Just be studious, do the work & attend. It's a language, not a hobby. Treat it like you do other subj!

She was a wonderful teacher. sure it does kill u if you miss two days but I have to say there is a reason why...u miss important lecture. She is helpful, she was kind enough to go a little slow for a student. Still alot of lessons to go through so makes sense why she rushes. Must have book(s) and practice, better with a group.Seriosly. Got a B.

Took this class for fun and regret it. I was absent TWICE and it killed me. Got A's and an occasional B on all the assignments and still ended up with a B. She takes off A LOT of your grade for attendance. Other than that she was a nice person. Ask her questions about your grade and you'll get a vague, "oh, you're fine."

Japanese 1 was great. She teaches a bit fast, but if you attend the classes and practice what you went over its cake. Japanese 2 was a step up from that. It really tests your dedication to the class and how interested you are. She can be confusing at times, but the tutors are great. Tomoko-san was so helpful and fun, you wished the class was longer

Comment:

Best class ever. Most people in the class will be interested in the language anyway, but Katsuyo-sensei makes it even more enjoyable. Lots of interaction with other students and the tutors. Well-planned lessons which make learning Japanese fun and easy. Highly recommended.

She's knowledgable about the material. She's helpful. The activities are fun. The videos make us laugh. I'd say if you have time @ night and need a lang class. This is the ticket.

The material is tough and she teaches at a quick pace. If you get behind you're lost but she always has about half a dozen native Japanese speakers in the class to help you as much as you need; even a biweekly study lab with one of the TA's.
