Comment:

Do not take class from Professor Hoffman if you do not have to. In an entry level course he rarely teaches specific technique or lessons to the class, yet when he does he is incredibly condescending toward students who do not immediately understand. His grading is entirely subjective, and it is unclear why a drawing receives the grade that it did.

Comment:

Professor Hoffman's teachings do not conform to the ideals and values of Western Oregon University. He grades your assignments using a made up system, prattles on endlessly with no inherent purpose, his critiques and lectures are inane, and then he laughs at you for not understanding. Avoid... This man WILL make you feel stupid.

Had him twice in one year. Honestly have nothing good to say about him. I tried avoiding him the second time but he switched with the professor I was suppose to have. Tough grader, doesn't explain the homework at all. He even lost one of my projects and didn't care to apologize.

Hoffman's really old school. You go to class he has something for you to draw and you leave. He gives really boring lectures not to mention he smells. He doesn't explain or talk about the homework in class it's all on the syllabus.

I actually really liked professor Hoffman, he was very kind and really tries his best to help the students. I will admit that he doesn't really tell you what will be on the two tests so you just kind of have to remember everything he has told you. Also you will get a better grade if you take his advice on your artwork.

If you are artistically challenged, good luck. I have never been more frustrated with being able to fulfill what a professor is looking for. I tried really hard and felt proud of the work i completed, until the next class when he changed the whole thing and I ended up turning in work I didn't like. Super nice guy, pretty much to a creepy extent.

Tough grader, even if you put in a lot of effort. There are 2 quizzes throughout this course in which he gives you absolutely no idea what to study or focus on. Everyone in my class failed both quizzes. Deducts points off grade for being late, leaving early, and missing class. Not allowed to leave early even if finished with your projects!

Professor Hoffman is one of the best professors I have had. First off, he is open to many types of artwork. He comes in on his own time to work with students that are having trouble & those willing to ask for help. If you talk to him about ideas he will give you a good grade if you execute them. He knows his stuff and cares about his students.

I thought Kim had a lot to offer. He has a unique personality but is a great professor. Enter his class with an open mind and be willing to show up and work hard and you'll do fine.

Kim Hoffman was very challenging. I would agree that he is at times cruel and has standards that would be unattainable for Van Gogh. I wonder as well how someone who makes their students feel so small can still be teaching!

He is very unsupportive and seems to have no respect for (most) students. He very rarely has any positive feedback and most times makes a joke of people's ideas or work. It really amazes me that he hasn't been fired yet!

What everyone before has said is absolutly true. He is completly unclear, his grading scale, if even understood boggles the mind. He stumbles over his vocabulary, not knowing what he is trying to teach. He is unapproachable, and harsh towards students.

He doesn't make sense half the time, contradicting himself with IS OWN VOCAB, he has also made up his own way of grading that makes NO SENSE at all. He harasses people who know what they are doing and for havinga voice and speaking with it. Fail HIM!
