Comment:
Painfully dull and mostly felt like he was rambling off the cuff. Did not engage students except repeatedly asking "any questions?" never actually trying to build discussion. Technical problems mired the class, the speakers would blast so loud it was painful. As a painter, did not get anything out of this class supposedly for Contemporary Painters.

Dubinsky is a great prof who's lectures you must be mentally present for, most of the time you may find that the ideas he is bringing matches your trail of thought....

His lectures were really interesting but he tended to repeat himself alot and go off on tangents. I didnt show up to class that much but i still got an A - i have to say though that knowing art history and being able to write a good paper saved me otherwise i would have been so confused. There are at least 6 papers for this course.

Lectures are long but interesting. Clear on what he expects and is very passionate about the topics. This class was not difficult. I even missed a few and he was kind enough to fill me in via e-mail very quickly. We did not have to buy a book and all the readings were easy to find.

Great teacher, tough class. Made the mistake of taking this in my first year and didn't understand some of the subject matter. That wasn't the teacher's fault though. He is very helpful and open to retaking missed exams and deadlines. Very nice man.

Really interesting subject matter, he has rescently changed up his class which does not rely so heavily on the book anymore, Its really interesting and the debates in class can get quite interesting and sometimes heated. Overall a very good Prof but you need to be interested in the class & subject matter or else you'll probably hate it.

As a previous poster said, this class was a constant regurgitation of an awful, awful book. Lon needs to retire, he is a nice guy. But really not fit for academia anymore . His lectures, like the book were awfully general and with an undertone of religion. It was impossible to write something interesting about it. Another Concordia gem :

It was overall ok. I mean it was an ok class. a class i didn't need to always attend and got a good grade simply because of my personal readings and what he called "passionate" writing. But I found his class rather boring. his assignments are quite easy and he is generous with his grading.

Spent the majority of the class regurgitating a textbook that was unpleasant to read. Still, his lectures did not line up or make any coherent sense. Not very specific in assigning papers but then is a strict grader. Got a C although I am a straight A student and truly applied myself.

Incomprehensible, self-referential lectures with no discernible point attached to them. This professor should not be teaching. PHDs often mean less than nothing...

talked endlessly without making a point. though the class was supposed to focus on contemporary painters, a large bulk of classtime was dedicated to vermeer.
