Preston is a great professor for German and is the one you want if you're attending Washtenaw. He makes learning German interesting and is very knowledgeable on the subject. Also participation is a must so don't think you can just sit back relax and get an A. If you want to learn German and don't want it to feel like a chore, take his class.

So far so good. It's too bad he's not teaching second semester German. I took conversational German with the other professor Roszell and didn't learn much. Mr. Woodward teaches from the book and actually takes the subject seriously.

Show up for class and you get an A. If you're looking to boost your GPA, then fine. If you actually want to learn German, try someone else. Good speaker of German, but not clear enough for beginners.

If you come to class and do the work you will get an A. He grades on effort which is good for someone who has always struggled with foreign languages as I have. You also get to watch movies where you learn about German culture. I highly recommend this class especially if you're someone who is worried about getting a bad grade in a foreitn language.

I took 2 sem's of German with Preston back in 03/04. He is quite a character with an unusual approach to teaching. Really quite excellent if you are motivated to learn German, as he is very skilled. If you pay attention, do the work (which he's lax about grading), and ask questions, you'll learn a lot. I went on to higher level German work readily

Preston is very well educated in not only the German language, but the culture as well. If you follow the syllabus, and pay attention in class (no slackers,) you will learn a great deal. This is my second semester in a row with him, and I plan on a third. I have never-ever heard him speak of his personal issues. He is head on about teaching.

Strange, quirky teacher. Come to class you get an A. No tests or hw. Great in his German skills, but teaches intermediate German in a beginnig conversational German class... Very fast pace, and not helpful for students that fall behind, but overall good class

Find the students who have taken German before and try forming a study group. He doesn't know how to help students who fall behind. He brings personal issues to work; a fine German speaker but lacks all teaching skills. If you come to class you will get an A; he doesn't even grade the tests. If you actually want to learn German, try Mr. Roszell.

Great approach to teaching language - very funny in a sarcastic, dry sort of way. Like the class.
