Comment:

People really respect him and even look up to him, but I've never really felt that great about him. He is an alright choral conductor, but I've never felt comfortable with him personally. His saving grace is the repertory he picks for choir and the performance opportunities he provides the group with.

Comment:

World class director and conductor, nevertheless comes off as humble. He has a very busy schedule, so reaching him in person can be a challenge; when you do, he's very gracious in offering valuable wisdom. He values every moment in time greatly, so he has little patience for foolishness, but always handles it skillfully. Best director I've had yet!

I have had a few private vocal teachers over the years, but Dr. Sowers was ABSOLUTELY the best voice teacher I've ever had. Yes, he is temperamental and bit spastic at times - but because of that, you get twice the amount of instruction that you would normally get in any other half hour of lessons. I hold him in very high regard

Sowers tends to be unhelpful in conducting. His first priority is Chorale; anything else is a blow-off, including conducting. If you want a serious conducting class, take Dr. Taylor's class instead. Honest!
