I had Dr. Spencer for NT, and he caught me by surprise. I'm an A student, but his exams are exceptionally difficult. All open-ended and strictly graded. That aside, his lectures are extremely informative and interesting if you value the subject. Would recommend, but know what you are in for.

Professor Spencer has no sympathy whatsoever and will do nothing to help you to make sure you pass his class. I do not recommend taking his class unless you are prepared to fail.

Spencer does nothing but lecture during his class. He has no quizzes or outside homework assignments. He makes it clear that it is your responsibility to make sure that you understand the material. I feel as if he looks down on his students because they don't have the same education level as he does. He straight up called us lazy in a class.

Professor Spencer is one of the rudest and unhelpful teachers I have ever come across at Appalachian State. He does nothing to help you study for tests and claims that he is "doing everything he can" to help you. He gives you over 100 topics to remember but only tests you on a couple of terms. As hard as this class is, DO NOT take it for Gen Ed.

Don't do his to yourself. This class is really difficult for a Gen ED. His classes are long boring lectures and tests are extremely hard (even though it is multiple choice). He will go on rants and does't cover everything he's suppose to. Therefore, you have to read and understand the textbooks yourself.

He is a very cool guy who is very passionate about the subject. When he tells personal stories they are very funny. Test are extremely hard but he is willing to help. He say the class struggling and has changed the frequency and types of tests to help. He wants you to enjoy the class. Don't take it for a easy Gen. ED. and a GPA booster. Hard work.

You absolutely must read, and you MUST go to class. Two things I wish I had known prior to taking this class. It is HARD. But Dr. Spencer is beyond kind. I should have failed this class after I missed just under enough classes for him to kick me out, including test days, but he was so understanding and I ended up getting a B in the class.

We got back from spring break and he had taught us half a chapter and the first day back he assigns a test on 3 chapters that we have to read. We get to class and instead of teaching us some information before the test he teaches us everything that was on the test after we had taken it. Very boring and monotone. He tries to joke but its not funny.

Had him for two classes. Is a certified genius and you will learn anything and everything from him. Doesn't suffer fools and has a caustic wit. Favorite professor, but he doesn't really know how to structure a grading system. Just teaches you. Immensely difficult, as he makes you think. Teaches it almost in sermon style. Only take if interested.

I love Dr. Spencer ! He is an amazing teacher and is very intelligent. The class is hard simply because it is latin. I thought it was cake, but then again I went to every class and studied. I would def recommend him before he retires!

Dr. Spencer is an insanely tough professor. I'm a straight A student with lots of church background and I have a D in his class right now. I'm in his NT class, and all your grades are test based. He's really nice and interesting, just don't expect it to help your GPA at all.

I took three years of Latin in high school and was very excited to take more, but he made the class so boring and difficult. I felt like he just assumed we wouldn't get it, so he didn't try very hard to teach. He made the material harder by doing things like introducing new vocabulary and grammar seconds before a test.

While I never got to take Spencer for mythology or NT, I did take a lot of courses with him in Greek and Latin. He is a very good language instructor and much of the difficulty of the class stems not from him but from the subject itself. Dr. Spencer is very helpful and understanding. He also has probably the best rants of any professor ever.

I had him for Letters of Paul. If you like Christianity or learning out religion, take him. He treats the class rather like a seminary class. I learned a crap-ton and really really enjoyed it.

I took this class for gen ed requirements and I regret it. He's a nice professor but it requires A LOT of reading each week, plus lecture note taking is necessary because any of it could be on the test. For a class I don't have much interest in and was merely taking for requirements, it was a lot of extra effort that took away from other classes.

He is a good teacher but his class is VERY demanding. You will spend more time doing his homework then any of your other classes. But he is also willing to help you. I went to his office just about every day before class to go over homework and that was ok. Sometimes he goes off track from his teaching and give a random political rant. Great guy.

He is an extremely intelligent person and really knows his stuff, but DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN EASY A! MUST keep up with the reading in order to do well in his class. Sometimes his objective questions were about trivial details most people don't pay much attention to. If you want to actually learn about the NT, take him!

I've had Dr. Spencer for two different classes and they both made me realize how brilliant of a teacher he is. I mean the man can speak at least 5 languages. His classes rely heavily on the text but if you keep up with your work then it's extremely easy. He knows what he is talking about and you would be a fool not to listen to him.
