Comment:
Dr. Whitely can be intimidating at first, but he really is one of the best professors around for upper division chemistry. He expects a lot, but he really does want you to do well and gives you all of the necessary tools to do so. He also makes sure that whatever he is teaching can be applied to an actual job.

Comment:
For a General Chemistry course, he is pretty tough. However, he treats you as an adult because that's how you deserve to be treated since you are now in college. If you're looking for a professor who treats you like a high schooler than this is not the one for you. He also has the best jokes regardless if you are a nerd or not.

Dr.Whiteley is a tough, and sometimes insulting professor, but he really does want students to do well. Make sure to go to his office when you have any questions about lecture, because it is very easy to get lost!

You shouldn't base your opinion on Whiteley on the Gen Chem classes. He is a nice guy and if you put in the effort, he is willing to help and is good at clarifying things. His class is hard, but you learn a lot that is applicable to other classes.

Worst class I've taken. He doesn't teach you, literally, he tells from the beginning, he's not gonna teach you, he'll tell you what he expects and you learn it yourself. He doesn't do a very good job explaining himself during lecture but if you go to his office hours you'll get good help. Don't take him if you can help it but if you do, good luck.

Dr. Whiteley gets a bad reputation because of his gen chem class. In upper division he is TOUGH-never doubt that- but he genuinely cares about his students and how they do. If you show him you're putting in effort he'll help you out all along the way. Just be sure to give his analytical classes a lot of your study time. (don't take with pchem)

This guy can't teach at all! He can teach upper division chemistry, but not gen chem. If you're not a chem major or don't absolutely love chemistry, then try to avoid him. His handouts are pretty much essays, and within them are equations and about half a centimeter for you to do your work. Oh and his practice exams arent like his real exams at all

He's hard and will challenge you, but it is SO worth it! You will never learn stuff as well as in his classes. He is freaking intelligent. If you work hard, he'll do as much as he can to help you. Don't expect his classes to be easy - if you're looking for that take chem from another professor. But if you really want to learn, go with Whiteley.

Completely useless. He didn't help at all, and expected you to already know a lot of the material he's presenting. First thing he said to the class was "Two of the people around you won't be here". Great upper div. NOT lower div AT ALL.

one of the most confusing teachers. might possibly be good for upper level chem but not for intro to chem. gives practices quizzes that in no way match the real quiz. would not take a class from him again. good at teaching labs though.
