Professor O'Neil assigned a lot of good exciting readings, which made it easy to participate in group discussions. Beware of getting bad grades on essays. No matter how hard I tried, it didn't seem to matter. Even after going to him for help and following precise instructions on what was expected, my grade continued to drop. Be prepared to cry

He teaches the class as if everyone is an English major who wants to be there. As a non-English major the class is hell. Everything must be done in Chicago style which is just misery. Extremely tough grader cannot stress this enough. Also try writing a paper without using is, was, or were because you will lose a lot of points for using them.

If you want to learn how to write better or write research papers, do NOT take this class! He got his Ph.D. in Military Culture and teaches you about post 9/11 American military culture. NOTHING ELSE. He did not teach anything about Chicago Style of Manuel or writing until the last paper of the semester. Forced to use fictional sources in papers!!!

His critiques are what made me confident in my writing. He is awesome and his teaching is on point. Topics can be heavy ( Iraq/Vietnam war) but get you thinking. A lot of reading, and expect reading quizzes twice a month. I recommend going to the tutoring center and getting help. He is a hard grader and you have to be able to analyze fully.

Prof. O'Neil is picky when it comes to his essay but his class is very fun. Every class is like a discussion. Make sure to participate since it's worth 10% of your grade. He gives really good feedback on essays and lets you re-do them if you get a low score. Would recommend if you want to improve improve your writing.

Honestly loved this professor. We had a lot to read which was annoying, but he made it pretty interesting. He is really big on participation, if you don't raise your hand he will call on you. He knew I was shy and I reached out to him a lot, and he really helped me. He is also a really hard grader on essays, but works with you. Definitely recommend

Professor O'Neil's critique of my writing is what made me an amazing writer in the workforce. He's an amazing professor and I wish everyone had the opportunity to take his class. I took him 7 years ago and I still remember everything that he taught me about writing. He's such an incredible professor.

He is a good teacher, he makes you really work for your grade. He is a tough grader, you really need to work hard on your essays; they are your only grades in the class beside the 5% for participation. If you don't participate he will call on you. I enjoyed his class, he really makes you earn your grade.

He is a hard teacher but offers to help you at times if you ask. Does not really answer emails but he does go over in class if you ask to. Make sure you have your work ready for class and work hard you will be fine.

Guy is awesome. If you actually apply yourself and try to do well, you WILL do well. He is a bit of a hot shot where he will speak down to you but it is to make your work better. Dont be so sensitive and you will do just fine. Also, READ READ READ. The books arent bad at all. I ended with an A- and a high respect of this guy.

He mistreats and plays favorites with his students. He can get nasty if you show that you are free-thinking by not blindly agreeing with everything that comes from his golden lips and smooth-as-honey baritone voice.

He loveeees people that talk up in class and talk about the readings...usually will give them a higher grade. He may seem difficult, but he really does mean well and wants you to put together a great essay....grade is only 3 essays. Really not a baddd professor

Great professor. Smart, open to different interpretations on class literature and reading assignments. Most who complain about the difficulty of his class are vacuous, lazy, and complain when they get bad grades without taking responsibility for it. Yes, it's college, it requires more effort than high school. Robert is a great teacher

this man is way too full of himself, literature teaches that there isn't one correct opinion O'neil assumes that there is one opinion that is right...which is wrong. he claims that people should be told how to write, he tells u exactly what he wants in an essay rather then letting u write ur own.i felt like i was in middle school in his class
