Comment:

He's very nice & very passionate about English. He can be somewhat all over the place but he truly cares about his students success. Very accessible outside of class, extremely willing to sit with during his office hours and go through your entire essay and give you good advice and ideas to make your writing better.

Comment:

Will Hochman is a mean man and a mess. He embarrasses people in front of everyone, is not clear about what he wants, and yells. I was actually considering becoming an English major before I had him. I would never do it now. stay away if you respect your mental health.

He confused the hell out of me. He wants you to become a great writer, but fails to teach you how to grow as a writer. He just makes you read these long articles and then blog about it, which wasn't for me.

I can't believe the amount of good reviews Hochman got. Taking his class made me hate being an English major(I changed majors by the end of the semester). Was always telling us our ideas weren't good enough and when I went to him for help on a paper he was very condescending.

Comment:

Prof. Hochman is a character. You'll either love him or hate him. He has a lot of great insight and feedback to give. The most valuable hours I spent with him were 1 on 1 in office hours. Class is easier if you show up with a thick skin and ready to defend your ideas. Great guy who know his stuff, be ready to accept constructive criticism.

This teacher gave every student in our class so much feedback but he taught us to take what we need to improve our stories and is a pretty easy grader if you do the work. There's probably too much work, but I'm glad I did it and I would take another class just to see how more my writing can improve.

Do not take this professor if you can't handle it. My friend had many anxiety attacks because of his class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU NONSENSE YOUR PAPERS! He can't accept that some people are passive about any topics he teaches. NO LAPTOP? DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. If you have no choice rely heavily on online rubrics for clarity on assignments.

Constantly put down the well written students in the class, but would help those who felt they were not doing well. He would yell and cuss in class, and at one point took my phone because it was on my desk. He doesn't respect how he may make others feel, and will tell you that your work is a piece of crap. I would advise to avoid him. Twas not lit!

If you don't have tough skin don't take this class! He is very critical at times. People get offended but in reality he's just brutality honest and some people can't take that! I learned a lot from him and through the blogging to class discussions he helped me become a better writer. He is helpful & will work with you as long as you do your part.

Will is a pretty laid back guy. As long as you show effort in your poems/stories, blogs and participate in class, you'll be fine. Definitely go to his office hours because that's where I got the most help. He's a great professor and actually cares about his students.

Will is great. You might feel slightly overwhelmed by his enthusiasm of the course at first, but as long as you keep up with the work and do your best to improve and participate, he will admire you as a student. If you're lazy and don't care he will most def put you on the spot. He strongly encourages office visits, and is extremely helpful.

He is a tough teacher. Personally I did not like this class. He makes you think that your ideas aren't good enough. Hard grader. The only positive thing I can say is he is very passionate and will help you during his office hours if you go. A LOT of blogging!!

I declared my second major as English prior to taking this course. I am now switching my second major. He has completely turned me off of English and can be a serious jerk at times. He loves talking one-on-one, but in front of the class, he likes to show off and be rude. I would seriously advise people to NOT take his class.

Will is intense and demanding and he's like a poem, I guess, a good poem most days. The course made me write more than you would think you would for poems. He really wanted me to try. I like the colostate site.
