A truly great man, and an even better philosopher. He embodies freedom of thought. Just hang in there.

He greatly influenced me as a person. Some people don't appreciate his lecture style, but if you pay attention, you will find it all worth it by the end. If you are confused at the beginning, don't freak out. Things will explain themselves later on.

Professor Xiao is smart, but a bad teacher. His lectures are often scattered and derail into laughing fits met with silence from the class. He doesn't take questions well unless they are in his own line of thought, and will outright tell students their questions are "not philosophy". Difficult reading and tense class environment. Students tune out

So passionate about what he's teaching, which is very cool. Can't say I loved the readings (good ones, just personally not crazy about philosophy) but most of the time, you can skim and be fine. He's really helpful and always willing to meet, whether during or outside of his office hours. Really great although lectures can be a little confusing.

He's nice enough and his sense of humor can be amusing, but he gets off topic very easily and the class is pretty disorganized. Sometimes it's unclear what the homework is, and sometimes he'll assign long readings that we never discuss in class.

Comment:
Many students find his lectures boring, and I understand why. His accent is thick, there's not a lot of discussion and his cadence is slow. But he's a great guy - thoughtful, highly intelligent, ethical. His intro had a good reading list. Lectures can be boring. Lots of writing, but chill writing. Easy to get a good grade if you're engaged.

Very good, extremely knowledgeable professor, but he could take a lesson from the political science department and be a little blunter with students. He tolerates way too much BS in class, though I understand that he tears into bad students on their papers and exams, so he's not a total lightweight. Terrific in office hours. Recommended.

USELESS. Take Richeimer. Yang is a terrible lecturer and totally incomprehensible. And I don't mean his accent. He also doesn't know when to shut students up.

Yang is amazing. He is a bit repetitive, he loves reviewing all the material we have learned but he uses great examples and is so enthusiastic. He loves getting feedback from students and is very helpful and supportive outside of class. Class can get boring but you have to take a class with Yang before you graduate

Nicest and most caring guy ever, and he tries to get the class involved and loves class discussion/arguments. Great teacher. One of my favorites (if not my favorite).

Yang is sweet, thoughtful, and caring. I can't recommend his classes, though. The lectures are never, ever worthwhile. He manages to be both confusing and boring at once, by never giving us new information.

Yang is just about the nicest man in the world, but his class was pretty worthless. He's really disorganized and terrible at creating discussion because no one knows what he's talking about (and I'm not referring to the accent). Abusrdly easy though.

I love this man. I didn't care too much for the subject but loved the way he taught. You can get as little or as much out of his class as you want, depending on how much you involve yourself in it... if that makes sense.

Really nice guy, tries hard, and definitely cares about his students. Always willing to help outside of class. Unfortunately, lectures are very unfocused and pointless. There's almost no need to go to class if you do the readings.
