He once said, "if you have to be forced to be a champion, you don't deserve to be a champion." I didn't know he meant that we deserve physical threats and dehumanization to make us ashamed of failure, rather than helping us own our mistakes. He was systemic in his psychological warfare against us so that we would feel worthless without obeying him.

Funny! I haven't thought about Charlie Menghini in over 20 years until having just recently watched "Whiplash," not that Charlie was nearly as bad as that music director. There were some similarities however. Sad that it doesn't sound like he's changed at all. Angry, short-tempered & at times unfair. Guess I didn't have him wrong after all!

This man needs to be sued for sexual harassment - every woman that has ever taken his class has gotten a B or lower and every man has gotten an A. Women have to work twice as hard in this field, and this man only makes the stereotypes worse. He should not be in this profession.

Dr. Menghini has good intentions. I don't think that he tries to be as cruel and mean as his is. He attacks students personally when they make musical mistakes and he will mock you straight to your face. He doesn't really teach anything either, but prefers you learn by osmosis. I don't regret taking the class, but I wish I never knew Dr. Menghini.

Where do I begin, He was rediculous. An utter joke. He thinks that being mean is a good teaching technique. Teaches classes he has no busines teaching, strung too thin and plainly pathetic.

He's a good and caring person in nature but loses his temper easily. I agree that he's not a very good musician/conductor, or at least not good enough for college level, but I think his directorship and musicianship is more than enough for our band's level. He seems to be a little narrow-minded and arrogant as a person and musician.

Funny how some people never change. I remember in high school during marching band practice he used to throw things and say the F-word while we were all standing there scared. He left an impact, alright. He has anger issues.

Worst band director I have ever had. He acts like a child. He berates and humiliates his students. He may be slightly revered among high school band directors, but other college directors find him laughable. He is a mediocre conductor at best. While students may be able to learn some things from him, students would be better off somewhere else.

One of the best teachers I ever had. Every student he has ever had benefits from having him. I see a lot of weenies crying about his temper. You try running a rehearsal with students that say they want to teach music but don't practice, then tell me you wouldn't get a little frustrated during rehearsal. Time to do a reality check. His high standards go beyond having "fun" in class. He is an amazing instructor.
