NIGHTMARE!!!!! He sent whole class to honor court for a simple mistake on homework. He is unprofessional, and has no problems trying to hurt his students in any way possible. He actively looks for any method to hurt your grade and reputation. He is the most evil professor at Auburn University.

Go to class! Do the homework. Understand the homework. This is not an easy class, but daily homework, recopying notes and class attendance is the best way to make it through. Tests are hard, and long, but fair. Often has "thought" problems on test. Be prepared.

Elton overall is a great teacher, but when it comes to tests and helpfulness, he's a condescending jackass. Just tends to overestimate most students' geotech skills since he's so good at what he does. GET OLD TESTS TO STUDY - it's the only way to pass his class.

He's tough! Assigns a ton of homework and his test can be very difficult. Getting an A in the class is VERY difficult. But you come out of the class having learned a lot. I guess a B in the class isn't that bad if you come out learning so much. Although it's frustrating to work so hard and still get a B.

Ignore the hype about this class being ridiculously hard. It is challenging yes, but definitely not impossible. He is firm on grades in the end, but if you have questions on the tests go ask, people do make mistakes. Best advice: Go to class, keep up with your work, get old tests to study. A B is not hard to get in this class.

This is, by far, the worst teacher I have had at Auburn! His lectures are usually not related to what is on the tests. The only reason to go to class is to turn in the hw (which he assigns every class, but which still does not pertain to the test). Extremely subjective true/false q's on the test. Get old tests; it's the only way to pass.

I had heard so many horror stories about this class, "worse than structures". Total BS. The material is not to difficult but he can go out of his way to make tests hard. You should have no problem getting a B with a little effort.

The class is hard and is a lot of work, but if you keep up with your work you will be ahead of the game at test time. For tests, get all the old tests that you can and study them hard. He uses a lot of old test questions, often word for word. Keep up with your work and you will have a decent grade, get behind and you might as well drop it.

Great professor. Great sense of humor. Hard but fair. Don't complain about too much work - do the work or switch majors.

Awesome teacher. Gave (probably still gives) lots of work, but if you keep up with it you will be ahead of the game when it comes time to study for tests. If you are a bum and you don't want to do any work, switch majors before you get to this class. Slackers will not pass - they shouldn't anyway.

his teaching sucks. What he tells you is on the test and what is actually on the test are two different things. He sets you up to fail. I hate this guy.

Dr. Elton is a great teacher. He is very helpfull if you go to him with intelligent questions. Anyone can make a B if they do all their homework. An A will most likely not happen. Challenging class but will help you with study habits.

This is the hardest class you will take as an undergrad. And it's all because of the teacher. He is awful. Personality sucks, jokes suck, grader sucks. I'm just sorry for all of you who haven't had it yet.

I graduated years ago, but took Dr. Elton's class as an undergraduate. I am now a teacher, and am still mindful of the valuable lessons he taught me on poor quality teaching.
