I took this class with a different professor and ended with a D-. This semester I retook and ended with a B! He has the most monotone bland voice but he is an easy professor overall.

Comment:

I wouldn't say Ruch is the worst professor I have taken but he definitely had his moments. Teaches you like you don't even know what 1 + 1 equals and then when it turns to classwork and/or quizes/tests he wants you to be as SPECIFIC as possible. If you don't show that 1 + 1 2 he will mark off points. Overall again not a bad professor just picky.

A really nice professor. Enjoyed going to class and learned a lot. Average difficulty but if you pay attention you should be fine. I will definitely take another class with this professor

Knows what hes doing. He can sometimes be a little all over the place. But goes at a slow pace taking time explaining the material. Will help if asked

Great, doesn't waste time, he gets to the point and explains concepts clearly and goes through lots of examples. It's a tough class but if you show up, pay attention and take notes you'll be good.

He would make a great high school teacher. REALLY REALLY smart man. Very strict when it comes to grading but he does whatever is needed to pass. Reading quizzez always every weekend and his tests were hard.

Dr. Ruch was very consistent in showing examples of different difficulties (easy, hard, etc.) and very concise and clear during his lectures. Very easy to approach and understanding. However, exams were very hard due to no study guide or additional practice problems.

Dr. Ruch is a great professor. He does assign a lot of work to do which can become a load at times but he is very helpful in that he is flexible, willing to work with those who are serious, and adapts his teaching styles to the class. He takes recommendations and always is looking for a way to make sure his students succeed and know the material.

the lectures were hard to follow. in my class, groups of students would just check out and start side conversations which made it difficult to follow an already tough lecture. the professor never made any effort to get everyone back on track, or figure out why people were stuck, he just kept moving through the material...

Amazing professor, can be a tad scatterbrained at times but is an engaging and effective teacher nonetheless. Exams, homework and quizzes are all manageable, fair, and his teaching definitely leaves you prepared. Also very willing and available to help and is available most of the time he's not in lecture.

He gives a lot of work (projects, homework,papers) and lectureslack in clarity. Test and quizzes are reasonable. He goes out of his way to help people who are serious about doing well,making special office hours, e-mail you back on nights and weekends. Plan to work hard in his class and take the initiate to learn the material.

Class started kind of rough. After being confronted by some students with concerns (not enough time of quizzes, not working example problems, etc)he quickly fixed the problem and adapted his teaching style. To me that shows he wants us to learn. The rest of the semester went will and I learned a lot.

Like somebody else said. Scatter brained. Doesn't collect homework, poor style of teaching, and tests weren't like lecture or handout problems. Out of like 20 kids in the class, maybe three actually answered questions he asked through the whole semester. Class was retarded, teach us applications we can use this for and not write useless crap.

Too scatter-brained, disorganized when writing on the board, makes frequent errors. Not good when learning math. But his exams and quizzes are fairly easy and he does challenge you in the assignments, and is fairly helpful when you come for help.

Meh... Decent teacher. A little nerdy after you get to know him. About 1/3 of the homework he gave out was just stupid and a waste of time. HW assigned from the textbook was fine though.

He gives "pop" quizzes throughout the semester so you must attend in order to take those - no makeups. As long as you do the optional problems that he recommends from each chapter, you will pass easily. His tests all come from the problem lists. Neat guy with a good teaching style.
