Her class was very easy to pass although she is a bit wrapped up in herself and her own world. She's a bit disorganized so prepare to change plans in a sort notice. She does definitely give constructive feedback. She can be sort of rude and dismissive at times but I would recommend taking a class with her for the easy grade.

I had her for intro to Non fiction. The first assignment is to write 80 page autoboio and use parts of that to pull ideas from. It was a great class, but you have to like working independently

She seemed interested in trying new things, but she'll mark you down for going off the beaten path unless it's in the same direction she took.

Comment:
Gretchen is extremely disorganized, which is frustrating. Her comments are usually blunt and not constructive -- She's not particularly good at motivating students to do their best work because she's so critical and focuses on the problem areas, not on what's good about the work. But she will make you a better writer, if you have a thick skin.

Too wrapped up inside her own beliefs about writing stucture to think outside the box with student writing. Not much room to expand as a writer. I was disappointed.

Great person, good teacher, but very disorganized. For example, she had built up a huge project for us with several movie viewings and some readings... only to discover, a week before the final product was due, that the movie we needed wouldn't be out on dvd for a few weeks. That aside, her class was a lot of fun.

Has favorites--luckily, I was one of them. She's all talk and will actually let you get away with quite a lot. She's pretty disorganized, but she recognizes good writing when she reads it, and she brings nice energy to the class. I like her, but I understand why others don't.

Gretchen's classes require a lot of work and a lot of deep thinking, but if you're a dedicated writer, it's all worth it. Gretchen pushed me to think hard and really put all of myself into my writing.

Easiness does not=good teaching! Very interested in student work and pushes students to do their best (challenging). Seems to grade on an individual basis. Outgoing, kind with a good sense of humor. Smart/interesting. Loves to experiment(a bit tricky).

she has no lesson plan, no organization in her class, and she expects so much with out explaining any of it. her classes are all about ****ism, and she is very biased. i don't recommend her classes at all.

Definitely has a feminist slant. A lot of people don't like this at all.
