He is a great teacher. His classes are centered around discussion on the readings. If you don't read/participate the class becomes dull but he tries his best to keep the class interesting. This class is not hard if you keep up with the readings. He does not like eating in class or cellphone use. There are writing assignments but nothing too crazy.

Professor Heiman's main goal is to help his students succeed. He will go to any length to help the problems his students run into. All of his classes are worthwhile to take because he is what makes them great and interesting. Study of ancient literature course was an amazing course and I highly recommend taking that class.

I LOVE this class. Sure, it's a pain sometimes but he's a good professor. You do have to buy a lot of books, but u can get them off amazon for like $2 each. He's very energetic and scatter brained. The only negative thing I have to say about this class is that he's a very tough grader. If you don't like reading, look on Litcharts, it explains alot.

He is a great professor and always listens to what you have to say even if he does not agree with it. He is a tough grader when it comes to the big papers. Make sure you participate and do the homework.

I had him for Fiction Writing. Very adamant on participation, which is not something I excel in. But I put in a lot of effort in my story, both first draft and revision. He's adamant but certainly fair. Really sweet guy, always helpful even after the semester is over. Certainly someone you can go back to for advice. Memorable professor.

Fiction writing. for anyone taking this course, you must have stories to want to tell & write. The class is simple. Write 2 stories, read your classmates stories, & critique them. Just write the simplest storie as possible & stretch it out with setting, describe the image of the person, symbols, etc.

Heiman is a great professor. He is very clear and goes through all the readings in class. 1 midterm and a final, 2 papers - one 2 pages and the other 4 pages. He is a hard grader when it comes to papers but overall if you read the books and attend classes you will do just fine. He is very helpful and will guide you through any work you need.

Not bad. Not easy either. You do have to read a lot, the books were interesting, Dante's Inferno, Beowulf, Macbeth, etc. He quizzes you so make sure you read and understand what you're reading. Ok grader, mostly B's for my paper. Quizzes are kind of tricky even if you read =/ lowered my grade (B) Nice guy, enthusiastic so make sure you participate!

Forget your past writing style and learn his writing style....than you will get an A. He is a very cool and funny guy but he goes a little to hard when he grades papers...as someone mentioned, he quite possibly has his own writing style. Once your adapt you will be good. Tests and quizs were a piece of cake..got 100s..papers killed my gpa!

If you are not a reader do not take this class. You will be expected to read at least 6 books. When writing a paper or an essay on a quiz just repeat what he said word for word in class if will love your paper, if not look for a C- as a grade or worse. I was lucky enough to get a B+. You have a quiz 5 times.

U need to buy like 6 books which is so dumb. If you are not a reader then I suggest not to take him. The whole class is based on the 1,000 books he makes you buy. Also he is a hard grader on his essays. I met with him and he told me my writing is bad meanwhile I get A's on all my papers. At least 4 ppl had a problem with him. HORRIBLE INSTRUCTOR.

This professor is cool. The key to passing his class is to understand the reading. He loves putting people on the spot.. but he also raises the grade depending on participation..essays seems easy..but he's never clear about them..so he take points off for study he never mention. Basically just say--he's got his own way of writing essays!..

heiman is an unreasonable grader. I did everything it says for his papers and he gave me a C-. I spoke with him after class and he told me that I didn't have quotations and that he wanted to me to write more about something he's interested in. He's crazy, he'll tell you to put a book under your pillow so you will memorize it and he's serious too.

WARNING, WARNING. Watch out. Hard grader for papers. Advice, PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AND PASS EVERY QUIZ. ALSO ATTENDANCE IS VERY IMPORTANT TO THIS PROFESSOR. He is very single minded. So keep your answers simple unless he ask for more information. DO exactly what the paper requires you to do. You should be OK after that.

I will strongly recommend professor heiman to any student that needs a lit course. there are about 5 quizzes two papers mid term and final essay both short essays. There are about 6 short books but you only read 4, attendance is necessary and class participation is a plus..............
