Very tough on your writing, but after the first essay or two you start to learn quickly and as long as you follow her corrections you'll do well. She's brutally honest but it helped me become a much better writer in the end. Worth the class, and she's fairly funny.

She is quite the grammar/usage/style nazi. And forget about misspellings or bad punctuation. Be ready to work in closely-knit writing groups all semester. She will embarrass people in class for not knowing proper English and writing mechanics. She is very moody and makes no apologies for it. -Slow at returning papers; final project is a monster.

Great professor. Truly cares about developing every student's ability in writing. Although the other comments do not suggest this, Prof. Van Buskirk is not overly difficult in grading... you just need to do your work!

I will have to disagree with a lot of negative comments on her-- yes, she has a tendency to favor students, but she really makes you a wonderful writer. An absolute grammar Nazi, but it's always good to have a whip to correct and motivate you.

Although she is a tough grader, she really is helpful in improving a student's writing and will make the extra effort to make sure that all students get the help they need if they ask for it. She is more than willing to meet outside of class to help with a writer's development.

Horrible professor. I didn't learn a thing; her lectures were boring and focused on elementary grammar points. She gives EXTREMELY unclear instructions for assignments, and even more unclear justifications for grades. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Overall the class was pretty easy, however I thought that she was kind of prejudice and she would treat students of a particular background very differently. She never included any race or ethnicity issues when teaching about gender relations within societies.I dont think she was a fair professor.

Linda makes an effort to get to know her students individually, and she always weaves great stories and real life experience into class. Her class has a close family vibe. She also has high standards for writing quality. Read and write thoroughly!
