I would not take Herb ever again. His lectures are the most boring thing ever, it was extremely hard for me to learn! His tests are a complete mess as well, they are all essay questions and the questions are worded terribly. I would definitely take someone else for Pols 3200

Fantastic professor. Very knowledgable on Middle East and North Africa. His stories and opinions made the class way more interesting and easy to learn. Easy A.

I learned so much from this class. Professor Herb's knowledge of the area is impressive, and he's very helpful outside of class as well. Definitely take this class if you have any interest in the Middle East - it's so informative. Take good notes and pay attention, and you'll do well in the class.

two tests w/ guides, paper, group debate (easy). doesn't take attendance. very knowledgeable, but make sure you drink coffee if it's a morning class. very friendly and will work with you if you have something going on. he cares about his students inside and outside of the classroom. great stories from when he was in school in the MID East.

MidEast & N Africa. Killer subject right? How could you mess this up? He's really a nice guy, but cannot teach. The class might have been easier if I'd paid attention, but it was way too difficult. I'm a straight A student, but that was the class I struggled in. Unless this class is somehow a requirement, don't take it. You're not missing anything

MOST BORING HUMAN BEING ON EARTH. He should not be allowed to teach. He will bore you to tears with his blue and white, stupid and random powerpoints. It took everything in you to stay awake and attempt to pay attention to him. Dear God, take someone else.

He is one of those professors who does not care about his students. His discussions are pointless, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Also, his powerpoint slides are very random. No point of trying to talk to him, because he will brush you off. Don't take him. I am not for sure.

Overall he is not a bad teacher. I myself hate political science. He gives discussion questions and two briefing papers. His quizzes come straight from the lecture slides. I ended up making a B+ in the class mainly because I did all my work. Although he never checks attendance, I would recommend going to class.

very easy simple and straight to the point class. 4 quiz 2 online debates and 2 (4) page papers. Leinent grading and curves the tests lectures can be kind of boring but pay attention to the small details b/c thats what is usually on tests. No attendence policy and a small amount of extra credit.SI helped

Lectures are very monotonous and he quizzes you over random things he said in passing rather than major points. Four quizzes, two online debates, and two 1400 word papers. Overall, not the best teacher but there are many worse.

His lectures are amazingly soporific and his quizzes cover the most random, obscure facts that may have been mentioned once in passing instead of the more important concepts. Supplemental instruction classes don't help. Also, he's a notorious clock-watcher. He'll say "I have two minutes left..." instead of stopping for the day.

Herb has the most mind-numbing, sleep-inducing lectures. I would advise anyone suffering from insomnia to sign up for Professor Herb. He stutters, stammers, stumbles, and uses up every single second of class. If you can get another professor that is teaching the same class, then I would advise you to do that. If you're unlucky, bring a pillow.

Have you ever watched Charlie Brown? Well, Herb's lectures sound like the parents - wont wow wow woooooowwwww for about an hour. You need to pay extreme attention and read every reading assignment he gives because he picks the most random questions to put on his quizzes. I would recommend for serious POLS students only.

His class was boring and looong. He's supposedly an expert on the Middle East but that reputation is hardly true. He has apparently written a book about Saudi Arabia and lived in Kuwait for a while but that's about it. He is also very biased and takes sides in political debates in class which I personally didn't appreciate. I do not recommend him.

I think that this is a good teacher and his class is easy as long as you study the power point notes for his biweekly quizzes. The only down side is that he is EXTREMELY BORING. The class is 1 hour and 15 minutes and he will say "I have 30 seconds left." Many people just go to sleep or leave early.

My Word this man is so boring, he will keep you in the class til the last second, he'll call you out in front of everyone if he here you takling, and he's lecture dont need to be attended all you nee to do is make sure that read the notes on the internet and write the 6 page paper and you'll be good to go.

HES CRAZY!He gave us a "Classroom conduct policy", if you want to use the bathroom you have to write him a note and give it to him during class and if you wanna use your laptop you have to get permission!!! His lectures are also soo boring! I get a great nap during his class! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
