Comment:
Took her class for my required writing minor. Every poem I wrote she judged, stating that it wasn't good poetry. I've never worked so hard for a C- in my life. She is wildly judgmental. Some criticism was helpful, but I felt disregarded and I'm an English major.

Michele is incredibly generous in her teaching, and challenges students to think deeply and question our initial responses. My skills both as a reader and a writer flourished under her tutelage, mainly because she believes in her students enough to ask questions that are difficult and compelling.

Having had the pleasure of being around this "professor" for two years, I would not take any of her classes. She is judgmental and chooses to aid MFA students that fit her IVY league, avante garde standards. Hear me when I say that only academic poetry is good to her. Nothing else. She isn't helpful outside of class if she doesn't like your work.

Comment:
The class profoundly changed my poetry, my sense of what writing and reading literature can accomplish, and and how I look at the world. Michele is challenging and brilliant. She expects a lot of work, but if you do the work, your art will improve faster and faster than you thought possible. I am truly baffled that there are negative reviews.

Michele will challenge you to become a better poet. Because of this, she is not an "easy" professor. That is a good thing if you care about improving your craft, and she cares deeply about helping you succeed in that. She is easily the best thing that has happened to me as a writer.

Michele is one of the most generous professors I have ever had, and she is by far the most quietly fiery. She is not easy, and she asks for real thinking. She goes out of her way to connect with students.

A perfect human. I can't possibly express with words how much her teaching meant to me, and how much she helped me grow both as a reader and as a writer. Not everyone will gain what I did from her, but that's all right. It's all gonna be all right.

Comment:
Prof Glazer encouraged each person in this class as we wrote poems, revisions and critiques. Michele encouraged us to improve by investing ourselves in the requirements of the class. She was generous with her comments, and never excessively critical. She shared poems from her personal collection, and introduced us to PSU sponsored “readings."

Comment:
Michele Glazer is a great class leader. She encourages you to find the solutions to writing problems by discussing your work rather than criticizing it. The exercises she assigned were very challenging and the interaction in her class was excellent. I learned things from her that will make me a better writer.

Comment:
The worst case of blatant favoritism I've ever seen in a college classroom. Grading was arbitrarily based on how she felt about students personally rather than clearly defined expectations. Insular, Iowa elitist. I can't believe she's the director of the MFA. Go to Pacific.

MFA poetry workshop. Disappointing. Hard to interpret this professor. She's complex and confusing, not clear. Seems unhappy within herself and brings it to the classroom. The long-suffering poet is something she epitomizes. I just don't know about her leading the MFA program at PSU. What have I got myself into? Maybe should have gone with Pacific.

Comment:
Intermediate poetry class a couple terms ago. Arrogant, distant, unhappy, quirky person who is terribly hard to read. Instead of telling you what she thought about a poem you wrote she'd suggest a poet you should read. That's not too terribly helpful. Iowa FMA grad, elitist. What I ask is, "what have you written lately?

I'm sure she's a very nice lady, but honestly, I have never been less inspired by any professor I've ever taken. Her class was so boring I could barely make myself stay awake and she doesn't teach! All she does is let the handful of students that have been taking her for several courses sit around and discuss their own work. Don't waste your money!

Myself and other students I spoke with in the class had a difficult time with Glazer's teaching style and grading style. Feedback was minimal, and she asks students to 1.2 space their papers. Its odd.

pay attention, Michele Glazer will give you the advice you need to tighten your lines. It is easy to see why she won the 2003 Iowa Poetry Prize, her sense of craft and interest in poetics is hard to match.
