By far the best chemistry professor I had taken at CSM. His grading methods are fair and although he can be unclear at times on topics he is always available and willing to assist and clarify any questions. He does have a tendency to go off topic and talk about Arizona, but overall one of the best at CSM

Deline is much better. Clay does not teach. Learned more about his time in Arizona than chemistry in his class. Just bad. Online homework. Deline is so much better. Take her.

as you pick your classes, make sure you have a schedule that avoids this teacher and his crazy stories. He talks about his old roommate and getting his PhD. so what. Has a computer program he made to teach but it's real stupid and can't help you. He thinks he is the best man ever and makes you feel dumb and less-important each lecture. STAY Away!!!

CLay is smart- but he can't help you understand. He can't teach, either. I had him once, and it was a mistake. I love chemistry, and I wonder how his students learn. Much better teachers elsewhere. Stay away. He can't teach! He brags about himself & his PhD each day. I made it through past O-Chem, and Clay never taught anything that helped me.

Clay is a much better chemistry teacher than I have had in the past. He is the only one I have taken at CSM and I definitely recommend him. He is not the clearest at times, but if you ask him questions he takes the time to teach you. He also gives you a lot of points to help your grade and grades off a curve. Helpful.

Clay is not the teacher to take. Change your schedule around so that you don't need to take him. He teaches everything from a skills program that he created, in which he doesn't even know how to use it. He thinks he's the best person (with his PhD) and he's always right. He will put you down and bring you down. DON'T TAKE HIM. SPARE YOURSELF.

Great teacher who took all the time in the world after lab to help me understand. If you want the A you can get it...but you have to work! I got the highest A and I still wonder how I did it!! He's not easy so if you're lazy don't take the class!!

HORRIBLE! He likes to discourage students and always has a superior attitude. Likes to talk about when he was getting his PhD..who cares..you're teaching at a CC now, not even doing research at a university. Lectures are useless---I just learned everything from the book. Nearly failed his tests but got a B on the final, so i got a B in the class!

Clay is a really smart person, but a horrible teacher. He doesn't teach, he basically fills in the blanks in his "skills" program and tells the same stories over and over during lecture. He also calls you chem "rookies" and "beginners" a hundred times a day, he essentially makes you feel dumb. He also loves to brag about himself.

Just like the person said below, he uses "chem skill" to teach. Lectures are not mandatory but labs are. He always go off topic in the middle of lecture. You're better off reading the book yourself.

I can honestly say he's top 3 in the worst teachers I've ever had. His lectures are useless since he already expects you to know the material. He only uses his "skills" to teach. I haven't really learned anything from him. Be ready to listen to him go off topic about the same stories throughout the semester. He wears the same green jacket everyday.

A nice guy, and seems makes jokes to make time go faster. However, he does not teach you very much at all. Uses a computer based program for his lecture (SKILLS) that does not teach anything except how to drag and drop numbers into spaces. Reading the book and other review books is the only way to really understand the subject.

Clay is completely useless as a teacher. He seems like the kind of guy you would want to sit around a campfire with telling stories, but as a teacher he is a fail. Taking his Chem 220 course right now, and so far he hasn't taught us a single thing a few weeks into the course. The only way to learn is to read the book and do the homework.

Not clear in lecture,. The secret is to use his Chem skills program to get an A. Exam questions are exactly like those in the program. Curves a lot which is a total plus.

He talks about random stuff sometimes, not very clear about certain things, makes you feel stupid if you ask a question, labs are mandatory, if you have not taken chem before you will probably get lost in this class. You have to keep up with the material, so don't slack off! Attendance is not mandatory. Talks about himself a lot.

Clay's grading system emphasizes knowledge rather than effort. He doesn't care that you are lazy. As long as you know your stuffs, you will get an A. On the other hand, if you don't know the materials enough, you won't get any good grade no matter how often you go to class and do the homeworks. This class is best suited for people who are smart.

Clay class is really easy. Can skip all the lecture and get a A in his class. Lab are mandatory though, but he give EC on the lab near the end. His test are pretty tough, but it doesnt matter. Since the grade on the final will cover all your test grades.I failed 2/3 test and got A on the final, so I got a A out of the class. Final is mad easy.....

Professor Clay makes class interesting. Attendance is mandatory for labs, but not for lecture. His tests are kind of hard, but if u get an A on the final, u get an A in the class. Out of the 3 tests, I got 2 F's and 1 D. Since I got a C on the final, I got a C in the course. I couldn't complain; his grading system makes it really easy to pass.

He is a very interesting person. You learn a lot about chemistry in his classes. Tells you what is on the tests, so its not hard to get an A(An A in his class is 87%+). He teachs through a program like a powerpoint. You can download this program to study from and practice chem. Go to all the labs to get extra credit. There is also non-mandatory HW.
