Comment:
Bob was the best. He was deeply concerned about his students and their understanding of the course material. His talent for guiding young egos to a better understanding of themselves was impressive. We use to venture down to Chuck's Steak House and enjoy an evening of local music. You couldn't find a better teacher or friend.

I studied with Dr. Luyster in the late 60s. I will always remember the unique and interesting experiences he provided his students. I worked with him again in the 70s when I was director of the Inner College at UConn. At that time he proved himself to be an outstanding professor who genuinely cared about the intellectual growth of the students.

How is this guy a professor of philosophy? Way in over his head. He has no concept of the subjects he teaches and their subtlties run circles around him. Utterly useless. As a person he is only mediocre. As dim-witted as he is old. AVOID

I took 3 classes & an ind. study with Bob. He's challenging. I love that his classes are mostly discussion. I never found him to be biased against girls as some people have said. Also, he's certainly not anti-Christ, since he encouraged me to become a minister. Rather, he won't take pat religious answers--he wants you to think for yourself.

Don't take this class. He plays guessing games and doesn't care about his students. His grading is erratic and you're penalized if you don't agree with him. Oh, and as the icing on the cake, very pro-Antichrist.

Comment:
I took him for three classes because I was a philosophy major and by the last one, I was soooo sick of his sledgehammer rhetoric. He plays with a limited set and recycles the same themes over and again. I would not recommend his classes for serious philosophy students. Best for young inflamatory males. (But he's not listening back.)

I have no idea what in the world everyone else is talking about that he picks on girls. He picks on the students that don't take his class seriously. If you take his course seriously, then he won't pick on you. He is extremely informative and one of the best teachers in UConn.

He was a great teacher that opened my eyes to many things. I never encountered him being unfair to females as someone else said, myself being a female.

umm, The other reviews of luyster were obviously written by guys. Umm, The discussions he holds are basically "try to guess what 'I' think about Sartre!" and he calls on women like he is waving a bug from his face. He obviously feels that female students are unformed thinkers..!
