Professor Hahn is obviously knowledgable in his field. His in class discussions are primarily dominated by him and aren't very approachable. (He will flat out say you are wrong). His grading isn't always fair as he will deduct your grade full letters if you fail to include certain writers.

Hahn is fantastic! I've never received more thoughtful feedback on my written work, he definitely knows his stuff and wants you to produce quality essays. He is very helpful outside of class, should you need any extra feedback. I'm thinking of taking on a history double major after this class, just so I can justify more classes with Hahn!

A lot of reading-a LOT! But it's usually fairly interesting, even if you're not a history buff. He's an engaging speaker- you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. Big on class participation and will sometimes call people out and ask them direct questions. All around good guy, super helpful in office hours and generally sweet.

Professor Hahn is fantastic! He goes above and beyond for his students and is very caring. He will spend as much time as you need in office hours, brings outside research to class discussions and tries to make his classes engaging and fun. Admittedly a tough grader but go into his office hours before or during you paper and he will ease up a little

Professor Hahn gives really clear grading criteria, so you know exactly the work you need to do, and what you actually need to read. His tests are really tough and all about memorization, but if you put in the time, you'll be fine. He loves history and his lectures are super engaging!

Steve is an amazing professor! I like history, but this class exceeded my expectations. He is very knowledgeable about his subject and wants to help everyone succeed. His tests are very straightforward, take notes on what he says in class and you will do well. He grades papers hard, but go talk to him about your topic beforehand and he will help.

Very predictable tests if you prepare a reasonable amount. Must read every reading out of the text book, the narrative books are not quite necessary to read. He walks the line being often slightly rude.

Tests are easy if you prepare reasonably enough. Zero surprises. He also grades papers easy, and you only have 2 short ones. My biggest complaint comes from a 10% "participation grade," but he lectures every day, so it's pretty pointless. He takes attendance every day, but you don't need to attend class to get a good grade.

Pretty good professor, but sometimes goes on tangents. You really have to do the reading in his 300s, but the amount is about what I'd expect from an M-Sem. Pretty friendly guy, too-- I'd grab a pint with him any day! Pretty hard grader, but makes sure that you understand where you went wrong.

Not a great guy. Grading doesn't make any sense. Assigns an absurd amount of reading. Wouldn't recommend.

History 140, aka Pirates of the Caribbean is a fantastic class! It's very informative, but also super fun. :) Hahn is the best! Take this class if you are at all interested in the real pirates of the 18th century. No tests, just papers, which he's very willing to help with. If you do the reading and participate in class you'll be just fine. :)

Really great professor. He cares about everyone's grade and tried to help as much as possible. Very friendly and fun in class as well. He graded based on writing a lot, so be prepared for that. He didn't do multiple choice/matching tests, so you have to get a holistic understanding of the subject. Lots of lecturing too.

HAHN IS THE BEST! I became a History major AND made him my advisor because he is just that great. He is open to students' own thoughts and opinions, and his own interest in subjects make classes enjoyable. I have taken 3 classes by him already, and I've gotten an A in each one. He assigns appropriate reading and papers. Prepare to read and write!

Hahn is the man! He really cares about what he teaches and does everything in his power to help you understand it. He was always very approachable outside of class and he is a genuinely nice guy. If anyone got a bad grade from him, it was probably because they were just plain dumb and they deserved it. Take his class.

Professor Hahn is the FIRST history teacher that has ever made me actually look forward and enjoy coming to a history class. History and I have a mutual dislike of each other, but Hahn made this traditionally dry and boring subject matter truly exciting for me, NOT a compliment that comes lightly. I highly recommend him.
