I knew NOTHING about European history before Pepper's class. The large amounts of reading we had to do made it impossible to soak in individual details, meaning I was constantly making flashcards and studying. Her class was tough as nails, but coming out of it I have a newfound appreciation of history that I have never had before.

Don't take her. Expects you to read multiple chapters +30pages of articles before each class(not exaggerating). Then has 4 papers due, lots of research, also "synthesis papers." The amount of works she expects is insane. I'm not a graduate student, I am a science major. This class is just a distraction that is going to ruin my GPA

One of the best at Seattle U. Very intellectual. VERY GOOD at leading class discussions. I can see why slacker students wouldn't like her. But, if you value education and learning over cheap grades, you will value her teaching.

Worst Class ever! She talks forever, pauses to ask questions-people are too shy most of the time to answer. Papers are difficult. Submit your drafts make corrections and shes still not satisfied. Write down everything she says-get permission to record her class-you need to! and be happy you did.Detailed notes will save you!5 novels.Yikes!

She gives a LOT of readings and assigns a number of papers. This class really made me snap my study habits into shape. The in class discussions are helpful though, very stimulating and engaging. She's an excellent professor, very professional but friendly at the same time. Even though she's a tough grader, she's always willing to help you.

Prof. Pepper is one of the most caring, compassionate, and intelligent people I've met here at SU. She loves her students and pushes them to succeed. She does assign a lot of work but I left her class being a much more well-rounded historian. She is absolutely phenomenal.

Professor Pepper is super nice and friendly. Her discussion questions were great and the class was actually fun. The material was easy enough to understand and I appreciated her concern for the students. Midterm and papers are straight forward, no curveballs. Thumbs up!

Prof. Pepper asks some of the best discussion questions I have ever heard. While she expects alot it is because she wants you to walk away from the class having gained more than just a passing knowledge of the subject matter

Great!Highly recommended! 5, 2-page papers and 2, 6-page papers. A fair amount of reading but it's incredibly skimmable and easy to fudge. Picky about grammar and spelling but is otherwise not too hard of a grader. Extremely kind and pretty helpful and available. Cares for her students. Does a fantastic job of making class discussions interesting!

Professor Pepper is a great teacher who loves what she teaches. She is extremely helpful and easy to understand but also pushes you to understand the complex themes. You can guarantee that her classes will not be just memorizing dates.

You have to know a lot about western history and religion in order to understand anything in this class. She grades papers WAY too hard for a history class. (three errors on any one pages is an automatic C)I dreaded going to class. Lots of group discussion and analyzing of primary sources. LOTS of reading too. I wouldn't take her again. ever.

Great teacher. Super organized, very clear. She's a woman I have a lot of respect for. I have taken two of her courses and I felt challenged by both of them. This is how I expected college to be-- I actually learned something useful! Thanks, Dr. Pepper!

For a 100-level core class I must say that we had a TON of work. Primary source readings were an absolute pain to be honest and took hours if you were to read and analyze each one thoroughly. Papers are not as bad as everyone says as long as you back up absolutely everything you say and make sure to answer the question "so what?"

This is definitely not a typical history class. It's all discussion based, so you really do have to read beforehand. She also focuses almost solely on primary documents, which is a break from boring texts, but also makes the course harder and more time-consuming. But I liked this class overall. It just wasn't exactly what I was expecting.

I used to love history before this class. Too many reading assignments and not enough opportunities to raise grade if you didn't do well on a quiz or test. The entire class is a lecture and mine was strictly Eastern Europe in the 1800s. Not very interesting. Nice lady, though.

She doesn't actually lecture, it's all based on class participation. Papers are difficult because she doesn't give much direction and expects you to know all about the subject, and hasn't provided feedback more than the day before the next big assignment is due. She says to go to her office hours to go over rough drafts, but many people that have g
