Dr. Watts is an amazing individual. He was my advisor and teacher at S&T. Showing up goes a long way with him. If you just show a bit of effort, show up, and read the assigned text, you'll do great. Very willing to work with you if you show effort in the class. Wish I were still at S&T just to take more of his classes!

He did not grade anything on my paper, and when he gave me the comments on the last page it never gave me a clear place to start. His grading is too easy to the point where you don't really know if the grade you received is actually good or if he really is just a lazy teacher.

Comment:

He's a good guy to whoever decides to participate and genuinely tries to get involved with discussing the text (which can be difficult). Tests are ID/essay and can be long but if you've read the books it really helps. Coming to class gives you a hint of what he's looking for, too. Nice to talk to after class.

Unless you are an English major and actually enjoy dissecting works that arent complex unless you make them that way, dont take this guy. Tests are "verse" memorization and identification (jeopardy style basically) with a large portion of essay. Very hard to stay awake in his class, readings quite dull, book avoids good modern fiction at all costs.

He is a good teacher. Tough, but good. I do believe that UMR students feel English should be handed to them sometimes, so when he makes the class difficult, they whine and complain. He teaches English how it is. He is close minded I agree, and does not tolerate idiots, and those idiots complain about him instead of relaizing they might be wrong.
